Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 31, 2020 10:00 am Hi Everyone, We are doing our very first knock down and rebuild. We are leaning towards OWNIT as they seem to have some cool options that maximise our views (i.e. rooftop terrace, which is currently 50% off) and the house is seemingly fairly customisable without major additional costs (as per sales rep, lets see once the quote comes in). My concern, is that for a company that has been around for 50 years, they have about 14 reviews on product review, none on Facebook and a couple from Houzz. It seems quite disproportionate to the number of years/houses they have built. I did ask this of the company sales rep, however the answer was a bit vague and didn't offer much insight. Can I please ask anyones experience, knowledge or tips? If you have built - were you happy with the final product, handover challenges? end result photos? With such a big commitment, we definitely want to make sure that we are checking as much background info as we can. Thanks everyone, MM Re: OWNIT Homes - Any experience? 2May 31, 2020 10:28 am MM17 do not believe any Builder’s anonymous 4 or 5 star reviews on product review. Be suspicious of comments on any anonymous forum. If you PM them ask to speak with them on a mobile or in person. Ask OWNIT to provide contact details of 5 past customers (with permissions of course) that you can speak with. Don’t accept any BS about privacy. If OWNIT Can’t or won’t provide such details, politely thank them for their time and find a more transparent builder that will. Re: OWNIT Homes - Any experience? 4May 31, 2020 12:02 pm The reason most builders have many reviews is that these are not genuine. It’s simply their social marketing. They are motivated to commission non genuine 5 and 4 star reviews because most other builders do, given the power and ‘trust’ of social media in consumer decision making. The more 4&5 star reviews (proportionately) the more suspicious you should be. Less and more balanced reviews is better, unless you enjoy reading fluffy fiction! False representations are illegal but no one here has yet worked out how to effectively identify and prosecute an avatar, and product review’s processes facilitate and encourage such behaviour. Anonymous 4 and 5 star reviews are not an appropriate indication or method of research for a $400,000+ purchase! Take Care. This explains: https://traveladdicts.net/tripadvisor-fake-reviews/ Re: OWNIT Homes - Any experience? 5Jun 01, 2020 12:29 am My friend has built with OwnIT in BNE and they like it.They do custom houses too without any extra charges. We initially went to them (with terrace in mind) but the price was coming on higher side after we included all our musts vs other builders. Also we researched and analysed terrace is not much practical with usability and might have future leakage issue. So we didn't proceed. With terms of reviews on product review i dont hold my breath as many people their will be writing their first review anyway! Re: OWNIT Homes - Any experience? 8Mar 26, 2021 12:30 am jillho I'm currently building with them and I wouldn't say I'll build with them again, House looks great but too many hassles What do you mean by hassles? I just signed preliminary agreement with them, can pull out before too late Re: OWNIT Homes - Any experience? 9Feb 22, 2023 10:47 pm How did you go with Ownit Homes - were you happy with the results. Thanks. Re: OWNIT Homes - Any experience? 10Mar 28, 2023 9:42 am I have recently completed a build with OwnIt and I certainly don't recommend them. The biggest problem that they have compared to the other volume builders is that they don't allow any variations at all during construction. Even if you have something really small to change, you won't be able to do that no matter what. Thanks. Hey BrisbaneWestie Did you end up building with Ownit homes? Interested to see how anyone has gone building with Ownit. They look good but seem to have some interesting reviews… I still remember the days when I was researching online and tried my best to find a good builder. I did end up building with Ownit Homes. Good thing is they completed the house without unreasonable variations and quality is kind of okay. 1 year now and nothing serious found. Bad thing is they took 1 year to complete, and no compensation. I think they are reasonable builder and if I want to build the second time I will consider to use them again. Re: OWNIT Homes - Any experience? 13Oct 05, 2023 11:00 am Our experience with Ownit Homes was quite smooth, despite a minor hiccup with our neighbour that they helped resolve. They were transparent with no hidden costs, providing clear insight into every expense. We were very happy that we didn't go over our budget like other builders suggested. There was a little delay on the build but they managed to complete our house in 6 months, in the midst of the COVID-19 chaos. I'd say working with an experienced salesperson is a real game-changer, our sales rep was the one-stop contact and navigated every challenge during our build. He offered invaluable layout suggestions that we continue to appreciate even after 2 years of living in our home. Overall, it was a good experience and I wholeheartedly recommend them. Looking back, having such a dedicated and knowledgeable sales made all the difference in our experience. Avoid at all costs. The interesting reviews only scratch the surface. Re: OWNIT Homes - Any experience? 17Oct 19, 2023 7:07 pm Sounds like a challenging experience BrisbaneWestie. Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like you are the only one to experience a less than ideal building experience, despite what the internet reviews say Thanks for the heads up on your experience.
