Hi Everyone
We are almost at the lock up stage for our first home build and today i received a phone call from the council to deliver the worst possible news. The building surveyor our builder has used for our house had their licence suspended in early February - This surveyor has continued to issue out building permits and conduct inspections post this, not just on our building, but multiple others since.
My partner and I conducted our due diligence on this surveyor. He had a few bad reviews from customer experiences so i did express my concern with the builder however he mentioned that he has used him many times and has been happy with him. We also checked the VBA and there was no red flags regarding any ongoing cases or suspensions. The date we checked the VBA website actually turned out to be a week or so before the suspension date - so he surely would have had an ongoing case at that stage, and nothing was reflected in the website to alert us to this.
So we decided to go with this surveyor and today have only been told this news. The council rep told me to get in touch with the VBA to discuss in more detail, so i am waiting for them to return my call. I have not called the builder yet as i prefer to hear their unfiltered response first. The council rep said they spoke with the builder and they were unaware of the situation with the surveyor, so this has probably put them in limbo as well considering they have multiple other developments that this person would have issued permits, certificates of occupancy etc.
I am really in quite a depressed state at the moment after hearing this and would this could potentially mean.
I wanted to know if anyone else has gone through something similar, or if they might know what the relevant steps will be for us, the builder and getting the build back on track
Thank you
