Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 23, 2020 10:17 am Hi, our house is almost completed. We are in the process of planning for the construction of the retaining walls (.5-1m high) around the perimeter. The walls were not on the original DA/CDC. Does the approval have to be on DA or just Complying development? I don't exactly know what complying development means but it looks like it's an approval where council does not need to get involved and we can just go through a certifier like what our builder used for the house - is that right? I'm trying to lodge the DA online but I'm stuck at this stage - I can't figure out which approval I need. Thanks Re: Reataining wall approval question 2May 24, 2020 7:16 pm It depends on your plans, the state you are in and how close the wall is to other walls or site boundaries but mostly a retaining wall under 1m high (600mm in NSW, 500mm in WA) does not require permits or approval. Search for something like "Do I Need an Engineer for my Retaining Wall?" should find information to help. Re: Reataining wall approval question 3May 24, 2020 7:23 pm Thanks for your reply. I am aware of the of the Engineer design and certification requirements for >600mm - I am from NSW. What Iām asking is would I need a DA to build my retaining wall and whether that needs approval From council or just a Complying Development like our certifier.
