Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 27, 2020 4:34 pm Hey guys, Trying to get a Geotech report for my designer, and a Geotech engineer quoted me with this: "$800+gst including travel" Does he mean that it will be $800 plus whatever GST and travel costs will be? Or, does he mean that GST and travel costs are included within the price of $800? Or something else entirely? I asked him which version he meant, he just repeated the exact phrase. Am I an idiot for not knowing? Re: "$800+gst including travel" ??? What does it mean? 4May 27, 2020 7:06 pm I reckon it’s usually an hourly rate and he gave a fixed sum but forgot to delete ‘including travel’. Re: "$800+gst including travel" ??? What does it mean? 5May 27, 2020 11:51 pm $880 now? The $80 jump, is that the GST and travel? An hourly rate? $800 an hour? Re: "$800+gst including travel" ??? What does it mean? 7May 28, 2020 1:06 am So the "+" is an extra unknown amount that will be added to the bill, in the form of GST. And the "including" means that they won't charge me anything on the bill for travel, gas money etc. Perhaps one of the other Geotech engineers I contacted will have a better price and a single number with no terminology attached. Not exactly keen on playing guessing games with the terminology, especially when there's money involved. Re: "$800+gst including travel" ??? Most companies will quote without GST added, but yes might as well wait for the other quotes.
