Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 26, 2020 11:57 pm We had a faulty chandelier, which was finally fixed approx. 6 months post handover. At handover, we pointed out the absent light bulb, and was initially told it was a faulty light bulb or socket, and will be fixed. Funny thing is it was all working at one stage, before they changed one bulb to show us what a "warm white" would look like, and couldn't replace it back when we decided to stay with the original. After handover, they found it wasn't an easy fix. Eventually they had to have two men lift off the base and fixed the "connections" which took a few hours. We were told it was a "faulty poor quality" connection. Now we have been sent the invoice for the repairs by the electricians. They said since they did not supply it, they had to just pass on the cost (labour). The builder has washed his hands off it, stating that he has no control of the quality of the lights chosen by me, and he did not advice us to purchase from them (he never recommended anyone anyway!). Asked me to speak to the supplier. I suspect the supplier/manufacturer will deny "poor quality" and decline covering the cost. Has anyone had this issue before? Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you in advance. Re: Faulty Chandelier Cost? 2May 27, 2020 10:07 am I am appalled by builders ripping off people and passing the blame. I will vote for anyone in the parliament, who will reform or form a non-biased building committee who will punish those offending builders. It's about damn time Re: Faulty Chandelier Cost? 3May 27, 2020 1:21 pm I'm not sure what the go is in Queensland but in WA there is a clause in the HIA contract, item 21 supply of materials and unfixed materials onsite: it stipulates there that the builder isn't responsible for performance of owner supplied products. I can understand your disappointment but its not the builders fault that the item you supplied was faulty, I'm not sure why you would expect them to fix it. Hindsight is a great thing but you should of gone back to the supplier of the product, I know this doesn't help you at all. Re: Faulty Chandelier Cost? 4May 27, 2020 2:07 pm Thank you for the responses. Just to clarify, the item was purchased by the builder, using the PC allowance in the contract. We chose the item from a local store and the builder did not have a list of preferred suppliers that we had to select the lights from .. not sure that would be considered as "owner supplied"? Re: Faulty Chandelier Cost? 5May 27, 2020 2:31 pm No it isn't classed as owner supplied , that's rubbish then, it's not your responsibility. Have a look at your contract there should be something there for warranty if not try consumer protection (if there is such a thing in Queensland) Stand firm and tell them your are not paying Struggling to find a chandelier with LED globe replaceable without any LED diver for my U-shaped staircase.
