Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 19, 2020 1:59 pm Hi Team, Need some advice, we put down a deposit (1500) for drawings, then (1500) for a qoute and prelim drawings Total $3000, then we asked for some extras to be added, the builder has then asked us to make it a tender process (another $2000) .. so far total .. ($5000) ... they rushed us, no planning around the floor plan, kept insisting we shouldn’t expecting anymore and we should be lucky they are doing this for us.. (What’s a tender for).. .. I find this really bad behaviour ... and have decided to pullout of signing the building contract .. they are now trying to keep all $5000 .. please tell me I’m within my rights to ask them to show me how they have spent $5000 (as no soil reports have been done) ? I understand some work was done and some charges are to be expected but not all $5000 surely Let me know your thoughts Re: Builders Deposit Refund Advice 2May 19, 2020 2:54 pm Who are you building with? I am currently planning my build as well in QLD and I'm currently waiting for a final tender from the builder as I've made changes to my electrical, plans and colour and other things selection. And so far, I've only put down the intiial $1,500. I was not requested any further money for any new quotations, drawings or tender with my changes. The builder has even done two soil tests (I received the full reports) and a survey of our land as well. You should ask your conveyancer whether you can request a breakdown of the $5,000 though. I'm not sure what's your right but the builder sounds a bit off if they are pushing you around or rushing you.
