Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Site supervisor expectations 21May 16, 2020 7:45 pm After 12 months of construction and two supervisors my experience is they definately don't want you poking your nose around as you'll find faults and slow them down and give them headaches. If you want the build done correctly you must inspect the site every week, and I know this is difficult as technically you're not allowed on site. Fortunately our site the fence was poorly put up with loose mesh on panels panels could eaisly be lifted up etc so could easily access at any time required. Once you find an issue with the build, you then make an appointment with your supervisor to access the sit with them, then you innocuously raise the issue when you 'spot' it during your walk through. If i hadn't have done this our build would have been a total stuffup, as I was constantly finding faults, things not installed as per plans/variations items missing etc etc you need to study your plans, tender and your variations list intensively so basically everything is memorised as there will be plenty of moments the supervisor wont know what should be done as he hasn't looked... I must say I was kinda shocked at the little amount of communication you receive, basically you have to find out for yourself and call your supervisor for an update there's sure no warm swarmy weekly updates from my building co... My supervisor isn't too bad all in all, but still very frustrating at times at the mistakes made and basically 95% of the work being performed is 'unsupervised' with no QC at all and things that you get told will get done don't end up being done at all, so it's up to you to chase them up when you've been told that things will get done but they don't... (I had to basically supervise my supervise to an extent!) I also treat him with respect, no use going off at them and can sympathise with how many builds they have going at once (25-30) I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 13101 We were lucky in that our old house was so small (86 square metres) compared to the new house, they were able to take enough readings around the old backyard house before… 8 37149 |
