Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 04, 2020 11:29 pm Hi everyone, Usually love reading through these threads but first time poster. I’m wondering if it is a good idea to do my own planning permit application or is that silly and I should just get a town planner? Quick recap of our building journey. We have a weirdish block in Eltham Vic. We got a custom build drawn about 3 years ago and despite constantly checking in with draftsman and builders, when it came to final costing the build price was about 50% more than we wanted to pay. We shelved it and then a year ago we started doing a second round of volume builders to see if anyone would touch the build (it’s a dual occ, they don’t like the driveway, etc) and after another round of rejections we found one (Hotondo franchise) that has agreed to build - but one of their designs. Whatevs - we found one we liked so starting again! I need to now do an amendment to the planning permit with the new Hotondo drawings. I didn’t have a good experience with the last town planner we used - I ended up paying him $4k and doing most of the work myself 🙄 so wondering if I just do it all myself this time. Has anyone here done that and how did you find it? The council is the Nillumbik council. The last planning permit we did took about 9 months to come through. This was unfortunately not my experience last time which is why I was asking if anyone has done their own planning permit application.
