Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 03, 2020 6:32 pm Everyone seems to be going crazy with Hampton style facade, Hampton style kitchen and interior in Australia. Its allover instagram! I am not a fan of Hampton style and I am going with dark timberlook kitchen cabinets (No handles) with thick white stone benchtop in the kitchen. Similar theme in bathrooms. Facade will be mostly white/ light color with grey color feature wall pillars rendered. I am bit worried if I am going completely opposite the trend and if this can affect future value of the house!! How long do you guys think the Hampton craze is going to last?? Below are the theme we are going with mainly dark timber and white walls. Would it look dated in the current age? To me, it is like leaving in 50 year old granny's house, NOT cool. Modern/contemporary interiors are certainly more appealing, much more trendier nowadays than Hampton and will certainly last. Minimalistic and Scandinavian style interiors are also quite popular those days. E.g. take a look at Metricon range designs on their Web site and compare how many of them are really Hampton's. Just my 2 cents. Re: Going against Hampton style house/ kitchen 3May 03, 2020 6:48 pm Hi mate, I am personally not a fan of the Hampton style. It's your home, build it to suit you, do not worry about future value, you will find someone who loves your home and will buy it. Re: Going against Hampton style house/ kitchen 4May 03, 2020 6:48 pm By the way, lighter flooring is generally more contrasting with darker kitchen, but will require darker skirting/architraves and doors (the rule of thumb is that doors always have to 100% match skirting and architrave colour, this is why a lot of door manufacturers also manufacture their own architraves and skirting those days). Similarly monument color windows and stacker doors which is quite similar. We’ll probably leave the internal doors white close to the wall color and white-washed / light color floorboards! We always loved this white black contract! Hope it works our for us!! Very lightly coloured floor will never look good with white walls and white architraves/floor skirts. Re: Going against Hampton style house/ kitchen 7May 03, 2020 7:48 pm Your staircase with the dark stained steps looks amazing, but will show the dust. You’re probably already prepared for this, but I thought I’d mention it just in case. We’ve had dark floors before in a previous house, and regretted that decision almost immediately. This time round we’ve gone for a dark accent colour on the front of our island, but lighter floors that don’t show the dust or hair from our dog. 😉. Aww thanks, yes I have an insta page @sydney_custom_acreage_build I haven’t done any colour selections yet (well sort of external), just doing it as we go. I have built previously (2011/2012) and documented it here but homeone was very different back then to what it is now, so decided not to start my own thread this time around. The insta building community is amazing! I love following all the builds there! Re: Going against Hampton style house/ kitchen 13May 04, 2020 10:41 am Another anti - Hampton here. I don't like it at all - way too busy and cluttered Give me clean modern lines any day Re: Going against Hampton style house/ kitchen 14May 04, 2020 5:13 pm Hi Alexp79, We have color selection appointments coming up and we cant decide on laminate floorboard colors for the house -something that is not too dark but will go with our white walls and dark cedar stained cabinets, floating staircase, main entry door etc. -we have a feature recessed wall in the hallway opposite the stairs and one media alcove recess for our 5.1x 4.1m family room. We cant decide what color wallpaper will bring a gorgeous vibe in the house and not look very washed out! I am in love with the bring gold wallpaper from bunnings for the features walls. How can I match this gold wallpaper with dark cedar wood and white wall color? -also wondering about wall paint color. I don't like blush cool toned internal paint. I don't like cream white either! Would you be able to suggest wall paint color and laminate floors shade that can go together with dark cedar painted stairs and cabinets? But what you do is to ask Michelle on this forum, she has interior designing experience and should l be able to help. With regards to the wallpaper, I am a more a fan of liquid silk wallpapers, although those have to be imported and are not easily available in Australia. Re: Going against Hampton style house/ kitchen 16May 12, 2020 8:44 am I like Hamptons but we went scandi with ours. We figure simple whites and timbers are unlikely to date, and you can accessorise however you like. Some people will tell me after I let them know that I am not a big fan that theirs isn't Hamptons , It's "beachy". Pretty much the same in my book.
