Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 24, 2020 7:09 am Hi, I am doing porcelain tiling to ground floor after handover. My builder is asking if the tiler is gluing the tiles or doing sand cement. I checked with few tiles and they say it depends on the slab. Does anyone has more information on this? The builder said that they need this information for the staircase bottom/first step gap with the concrete. Gluing is easier and cheaper but it depends on the quality of slab/footings alternatively laying a sand cement base throughout may yield a better finish for highly glossed Tiles Where you may notice levelling variances in the slab. the concretor will need to make allowances 20-30mm Manu2526 The builder said that they need this information for the staircase bottom/first step gap with the concrete. Your opions are 1. Butt up the tile to the riser 2.Screed the whole floor have the tile run under ie open tread 3.Use a quad trim to cover Thanks for the photo as it helps others hth Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Staircases and sausages.
