Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 29, 2008 8:44 pm Goodbye for now. There were so many mistakes with our contract that we have decided to call it quits. We were like going back and forth pointing out their mistakes that we do not have the confidence anymore. Thanks everyone. Re: Goodbye House Building 2Sep 29, 2008 8:52 pm Well that’s a shame!

No wonder so many people said spec home builders give us lots of headache. Yep! Maybe try a private builder; you might be very surprised with the outcome. Speckies can do a home a little cheaper, but look what you have to put up with. No thanks, not for me! I like to have my own way, when its MY house. Good luck! Well done though for pulling out before you started building.
Good luck in the future for planning your build! Re: Goodbye House Building 10Sep 30, 2008 9:34 am mattwalker You are right about the back and forth though ... big builders are experts at it! I totally agree - we didn't expect it... but are living through it and know that in the end... eventually... we will get there.. We constantly had to fix their mistakes at tender / contract... but I think that was because we 'KNEW' our house plan inside - out (and they didn't!!!) Good luck with the future Re: Goodbye House Building 11Sep 30, 2008 9:38 am Wow that's really sad!
I hope you get back on the horse again when you're ready. Once you get a good builder, or find a balance with your builder, it would be an amazing experience to build your own home. Good luck! Re: Goodbye House Building 13Sep 30, 2008 11:40 am donuts That is a shame overthemoon What are you thinking of doing instead? Reovating? Buying established? Or just take a break from it all for a while and see what happens? We are taking a break for the time being. A friend built a speckie with an established builder in Melbourne....the timber floor cupped within 3 months and the faucet did not reach the bath tup Water filled the bathroom instead of the bath tub Re: Goodbye House Building 14Sep 30, 2008 11:46 am Overthemoon…….how many user names are you going by?
