Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 29, 2008 7:29 pm I am trying to pick a white dulux paint for our home. I am currently looking at Lexicon 1/4 strength thanks to Michelle.
Just wondering if anyone else has painted their home in a shade of Dulux white and if they would like to share pics Re: Show me your dulux white walls 2Sep 30, 2008 3:37 pm 1/4 strength Lexicon is pretty stark - a drop of black is the only tint. I would suggest you try a few different sample pots on the wall or a piece of MDF. I am using 1/4 strength Hog bristle (very popular colour) at the moment in one of my investment properties. Photos won't give you a good indication of it's true colour due to different lighting... Re: Show me your dulux white walls 3Sep 30, 2008 3:55 pm At the moment I have some Antique White USA, it is nice, not stark white and if you don't have any other whites around it, you would think it was a white white but it is a warm white. My daughter has White on White, it is a very clean cool white and looks lovely also, different feel. New house will be 1/2 strength White Duck, looks like a greyish white. I have used Whisper White also a tad creamier than the Antique USA one I think. That's about it for me. Re: Show me your dulux white walls 4Sep 30, 2008 4:21 pm We're using Dulux Lexicon. It has a very subtle, soft shade of grey but you can only tell if you compare it to ceiling white. We're very happy with it - it gives the space of white without being too stark, and creates a bit of warmth. Re: Show me your dulux white walls 5Sep 30, 2008 4:35 pm I did buy a sample pot and paint a canvas with it. I do like it but it is so hard to tell as the house isnt built it wont be until it is built and painted that we will know if we got it right or not.
Our tiles are a latte colour and our kitchen is mostly white. I think I need to trust Michelle who reccomended the lexicon 1/4 strength she knows more about it than I do Re: Show me your dulux white walls 6Sep 30, 2008 4:56 pm KWOOD2 1/4 strength Lexicon is pretty stark - a drop of black is the only tint. I've been working in dulux trade centre for four yrs, work for a builder while studying a construction management degree...so I know a bit about paint...and other things! 1/4 lexicon is (9 times out of 10) the same tint painters use in undercoats and ceiling whites to make it 'off-cast'. White on it's own has terrible coverage, but a dash of black in paint reduces the starkness and more importantly, helps the paint cover... Re: Show me your dulux white walls 8Sep 30, 2008 6:34 pm Oooo another Dulux person yaaaay!
Thanks for clearing up the black in the white paint for me. I have on a couple occasions had to battle to get the painter to do brilliant white on the ceiling. Sometimes with the colour I’m using on the walls I would prefer white, no tints, no shades, but they like to argue with me on this. Does it distort the white much? If adding a miniscule amount of black tint into vivid white (untinted white) saves the painter from having to apply another coat, it doesn't suprise me that they'd argue! You will only just notice 1/4 strength Lexicon next to the white if they were both on the same wall but i'd be surprised if the trained eye could notice the difference between 1/4 Lexicon and white if the room was painted in either colour. IMO, white obviously gives a nice clean look but the natural light on a completely white wall can be blinding! We're also doing a mostly white kitchen, but will have grey coloured tiles. I like the crisp white look and thought that White on White would be the way to go. No?
Ohhh sooo confused now Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again. I had a chat with the builder, he said he will use primer, then hydrotec which comes with colour and sealer as well.
