Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 04, 2020 6:55 pm Is it possible to replace a full length 2300mm x 3000m sliding window with a same size sliding door post handover?? We have a gentle slope side to side on our block. As a result the left side of the building is higher than the ground. We want a sliding door to the left side but it’s requiring 3 steps, with railing for council approval purposes. We plan to fit that area of backyard with loose soil and retain that with a RW to flatten the yard in future. We will have a 8x3 pool at the back which will leave us with a lot of soil to use in that purpose. My question is, if we keep a sliding window (floor length and wide) in place of sliding door now. Can we replace that window with a sliding door or the same measurements after handover and OC all done? Presumably the door frame has to be recessed into the slab Re: Replacing full length window with same size sliding door 3Apr 04, 2020 7:25 pm BROKEANDEXCITED I am presuming you are well in to the build or already have a window in place Its way expensive to do it after the build IMHO cheaper to get a variation done and install a sliding door. Presumably the door frame has to be recessed into the slab Thanks for your reply. We are at tender stage. We have the sliding door in the Tender plan and it is costing us $6000 for the steps from the door to outside including rails . When we flatten the landscape after handover, this expensive steps will be useless. Any alternative cheaper option to steps with rails? Re: Replacing full length window with same size sliding door 4Apr 04, 2020 7:35 pm Worth exploring if a timber deck is feasible. Should not be all that expensive Re: Replacing full length window with same size sliding door 8Mar 14, 2021 6:37 pm Looks like it’ll be more than 1 metre above the ground so you’ll need a landing and railings for the occupancy permit. Shouldn’t cost that much for the cheapest Bunnings stairs. Still be much cheaper than paying for doors and fitting post handover. I’m in a similar position except I’m after sliding 3 stacking doors.
