Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 29, 2020 1:22 pm Hi guys, Hoping to get some help on the below. As we are first time builders (BGC) and struggling to understand if we have rights to escalate this further or just to suck it up as they say. Our sliding doors have been installed and we were quite shocked to see how thick the panel/frame looks. We have been to multiple display homes which feature a slightly slimmer profile and also found someone who has started the same time as us (with the same builder) who has a slimmer frame installed. These are standard doors in the display and are not an upgrade. Our stickers and handles are different to others) Even our site supervisor had never seen this type of door before and had to escalate to management to find out further. The below is the builder's response and it doesn't make much sense to us at all: "Windows and doors are covered under the spec and the addenda- If a supplier changes their product slightly we do not advise clients and are not required to as long as the opening sizes etc remain the same. The new frames have been installed in all of our displays for a while now. JOINERY a/ Powder coat aluminium framed windows and sliding doors with sashes as shown on the working drawing s, supplied, installed and glazed, comprising of manufacturers standard components. Windows will be positioned according to brick sizes and approximately as shown on the working drawings. Frames not supported internally by slab will have an aluminium angle cavity closer installed. All windows and doors comply with the minimum requirement of AS 1288 - 1989. b/ External front entry door frames to be timber, rebated for doors and fixed glazing panel for sidelight where applicable" Any advice would be greatly appreciated. They make most of the products used in the house themselves. Unfortunately aluminium profiles change from time to time. Does the display home have the same size (height) windows as your house? Hi Chippy, yep same size height and width. I don't get it. Re: Sliding door clarification (WA build) 5Mar 29, 2020 7:01 pm They have obviously changed the profile, I can't imagine that it's a different supplier because they make them themselves. Usually commercial frames are a chunkier looking frame so maybe they have had supply issues with the domestic extrusion and you have been upgraded to the semi-commercial or commercial frame. I actually think it looks better and would upgrade to commercial frames whenever possible Accessible Carpentry & Cabinets accessiblecarpentry@gmail.com accessiblecarpentry.com.au https://www.facebook.com/pages/Accessible-Carpentry-Cabinets/583314911709039 Re: Sliding door clarification (WA build) 6Mar 30, 2020 11:25 am chippy They have obviously changed the profile, I can't imagine that it's a different supplier because they make them themselves.
