Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 29, 2008 9:19 am Does anyone know if its possible to lay grass prior to handover.
We are hoping to have handover sometime between the end of Nov and mid Dec... And as it is going to be school holidays we are hoping that we can just get some grass layed out the back for the kids till we can get the landscaping done. We've already got an existing cubby and large sandpit for them, but really want to just get some grass in so they can play outside over the holidays... We are hoping that we can get it all ready during just before handover, has anyone done or heard of this being done without too much problem from the builder??? Thanks Re: Laying Grass before Handover??? 2Sep 29, 2008 9:29 am Hi Clarity,
I would not have thought your builder would mind, especially if you have already passed lock-up stage and all their work is now internal?? If they say no...Does your house still have the temporary fencing outside? If not, or even if it does and you can still get through (ours is like this) there is nothing to stop you going in on the weekend and plating your grass seeds? Re: Laying Grass before Handover??? 3Sep 29, 2008 9:36 am One of the last things a builder does is to have a final site clean-up outside, usually with a bobcat or similar, this might damage any grass that you lay down or sow before handover.
In any case ask your builder. Geoff - Decophile. Re: Laying Grass before Handover??? 5Sep 29, 2008 1:03 pm Thanks Donunts, we do still have the temp fence out the front - we're not quite at lock-up but hopefully not too far.. I hadn't thought of grass seeds, not sure it would be quick enough
Eager, will ask our SS a little closer to the time, I'm just curious if anyone has done in the past. Adrian, but thanks! (I'm hoping that comes from experience ) Re: Laying Grass before Handover??? 6Sep 29, 2008 3:35 pm As stated there is still site works to be done, storm water to be connected, addiotnal plumbing as required, sewerage connections if not completed. Then there are trademens utes, dogs, trucks, delivery vans, cars etc etc that wont care about your grass. Adrian B hi 7Sep 29, 2008 4:29 pm I had a friend that put in grass before handover and everything went fine!
So GO for it! Re: Laying Grass before Handover??? 9Sep 29, 2008 5:36 pm I was thinking JUST before handover, like the week before-ish...
I think I will wait till we're given a date for handover, speak to SS then and see if there is anything left to be done out the back and if all is done then see if we can do it while waiting for the 'offical' handover.
