Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 23Mar 11, 2020 4:44 am As for the wind roses, I think you liked at the annual wind rose, which would give you the average throughout the year. I think it's more useful to look at the seasonal averages, for both 9am & 3pm. Particularly in summer, when you'd want the most cooling. But in spring & autumn too. I'd guess the 3pm wind roses might be more important, as I'd expect afternoon/evening cooling breezes, though I'm no expert. It looks like the wind is predominantly from the east (onshore breeze), more often from the NE then SE I think. http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/ ... _map.shtml Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 24Mar 11, 2020 7:51 am lol A draftsman I actually visited first, unfortunately. What a disaster... I wrote a big email to him, right, explaining my lifestyle and what I wanted, which I thought was fairly succinct. I finally get him to agree to a meeting, a month later... and when I get there, right, he says to me "Oh, I didn't read your email." then asks for the 3rd time how many rooms I want. Yeah, it didn't go well. I didn't actually know what a draftsman does exactly, I only got recommended them. It sounds like I need an architect. Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 26Mar 11, 2020 10:12 am Yeah, or a building designer. Would kitome be worth making an appointment with? Do they sort of do what I'm looking for? They do mention on their website that they do design work, and that they try to get exactly what you're after. https://www.kitome.com.au/how-it-works/ Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 27Mar 11, 2020 11:50 am Worth a try. Let us know how you go, it will be interesting if you go ahead with it! Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 28Mar 11, 2020 12:23 pm Will do. They might even have better designs that fit my wish list. They've most likely got significantly more experience than me at designing after all. Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 29Mar 11, 2020 2:40 pm Wait, why would it be an interesting option? They're not really the traditional home designers that I'm looking for? Feedback on this house diagram? Please 30Mar 11, 2020 2:52 pm Only that there are not that many prefab homes on this site. I’ve heard they are pretty quick to put up, as they’re built in factories (no weather considerations) then taken apart, transported to site in large sections and rebuilt. Someone else might be able to tell you more (or correct me) but they’re similar to demountables that schools use. Hopefully better quality though! They are not the same as traditional volume builders. Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 31Mar 11, 2020 3:06 pm Ah, geez. So they might be significantly lower quality then. They might just be a temporary house. Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 32Mar 11, 2020 4:35 pm I think they’ve come a long way. There was one on Grand Designs UK that looked great. Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 33Mar 11, 2020 5:20 pm Looked great. But how long do they last? There isn't anything online about this. Nothing that compares the two. See, this is why I need to find some sort of consultant to cut through all this. Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 34Mar 11, 2020 8:07 pm Even traditional builders. There's no site where they're all reviewed. We're all just flying blind here. Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 35Mar 11, 2020 9:58 pm Ah geez. Look at this one. https://www.buildwithrise.com/stories/h ... -pros-cons They basically describe a kit home, as just getting a shell and having to call around subcontractors to sort everything out. I can't even figure out ONE consultant let alone a small garrison of them. Perhaps a kit home isn't the ideal path for me. Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 36Mar 11, 2020 10:03 pm Architects provide the most comprehensive service I guess. Or perhaps a project manager specialising in construction. Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 37Mar 11, 2020 10:19 pm Is it worth getting an architect for an 80 square metre home, though? Or is an architect just for the rich and their mansions? Will they even bother with an 80 square metre home? Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 38Mar 12, 2020 9:09 am Moromillas Radec Ah geez. KitHome suppliers can do anything from just providing a shell (ideal for owner builders or experienced tradies) through to full service design and installation with full finishes. I really think you should contact that company. They build small homes on Russell Island which should fit your very limited budget. Re: Feedback on this house diagram? Please 39Mar 12, 2020 10:54 am Oh, alright, I'll make sure to ask Kitome and get a price tag with all the inclusions and what not. Thanks, Uni. Also wouldn't mind picking their brain as to how durable a kit home really is. I am looking for feedback on them from others who have built with them. 0 13449 |
