I was told it takes 20 working days from the day the house is vacant. that's a very long waiting time. Can I contact AGL while I'm still living in the house and let them know the demolish date so they can ensure it's done before that date? does it matter if I'm still living in the house while they do the abolishment? Understand there will be no gas for the house, but other than that is there any other issues? Thanks! We were told that Jemena will use best endeavours to remove the gas meter in 20 business days, but some areas could take longer, and that our retailer (Energy Australia) could only lodge the paperwork two days before our vacant date. When we filled out the application form, simply due to an oversight on our part, we didn't advise a vacant date and the abolishment was actually completed about a week after we submitted the application. We were surprised how quickly they got to it and as result we got a phone call that went something like "we're here to remove the gas meter but we can see through the windows that there's still furniture in the house". A simple confirmation from us that we had vacated but still had some furniture to move and they were happy to proceed. As I recall, 40 minutes (and $1155) later and the abolishment was completed.
