Using Major Builder in different locations

We're thinking of buying an old home, knocking down and building our own.

We are happy taking a standard design from a major builder. We have found some floor plans and designs we like, so don't need to customise too much.

When using a cookie cutter standard design from a major builder: How much do prices vary according to the area?

We're looking at building in a suburban area not far from the city, where most of the homes were built in the 1950's. We are focusing on flat blocks.
A second and related question:

We have only been looking online, not yet commencing the daunting process of getting the builders out to a site for a consultation.

Our specs would be:

- Knockdown old house
- Build a mid-level quality, medium sized single storey home with a major builder

Roughly what will our total cost be? Just looking for a ballpark figure before we start talking with different builders.
