Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 03, 2020 7:11 am Hi We have some downlight provision. We are going to get the same downlight as the rest of the ones already installed. I heard that when there is no bulb replacement, instead the whole unit has to be replaced. Would it be wise to buy extra downlights now to keep consistency when they need replacement? Re: Should I buy extra downlights? 3May 03, 2020 5:33 pm Yes, if it matters to you to have them all the same, then buy a few extra just in case. Manufacturers change designs and sizes, so no guarantees that you will find exactly the same in ten years time Re: Should I buy extra downlights? 4May 04, 2020 11:17 pm This is very wise! In that year, my father was looking for downlights to replace those that had already served for more than 5 years, and could not find... Only similar ones, but there isn't the same. Re: Should I buy extra downlights? 5May 05, 2020 12:10 pm Most quality residential specification LED down lights are rated to last 30,000 hours before their light output diminishes to 70% (L70) of what is was when they were new. Based on an average 4 hours running per day they should last about 20 years until they get to this point. Given these lights typically only cost about $10 - $15 each at retail it's reasonable insurance to get an extra 10 lights or so for exact replacements in case their electronic components fail - typically their integral 'drivers' will fail due to sustained heat and or low quality electronic components. Particularly if you want to match their plastic housing profile & colour, light colour temperature (K), output (Lumens), beam spread, and dimming performance later. They are an easy DIY replacement, plugging straight into their power points in the ceiling. Just be careful with the spring loaded clips so you don't damage the ceiling gyprock. Looking at some of the designs on websites, they are all selling very similar products. I get that you want something stylish. It's worth looking for search terms like SaveH2O… 2 7006 i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 16009 |
