Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Thomas Archer Bayside Build 141Sep 12, 2020 4:19 pm This week's update My cushions arrived from NSW today - wow that was quick! SS still trying to juggle trades... The beast of a garage door is being installed on Thursday, and clad on Friday. Quite a few lads involved there, she's a commercial order! Plumbers need to come to fit basins and toilets, mixer taps etc, towel racks and loo paper holders. Once garage door is fitted and clad, painters can come in. Plaster inside corner of garage behind the counterweight (told you she was BIG) Then the tiler can tile the bottom of the column right up to counterweight. Paint finish in garage, plus front door and jambs, stair balustrades. Stair treads still to be stained. Skirting boards are happening.. Balcony is almost done too. Nice view over the weeds atm. It will be palms & tropicals once we're in Getting to the final "Bits and pieces" stage. So, on Monday night out house was broken into. Only found this out from SS at the end of the phone call when he rang about something else! Door from garage into house was jemmied. SS said that every cupboard and drawer was open. Opportunistic thieves? He doesn't think anything was stolen (bath still in box on kitchen bench, basins still in every ensuite etc) No apparent damage other than the internal door and frame, which I know they'll fix. Just really annoyed. We can't visit our site, yet someone else feels they can. GRRRRR. So the actual reason for the phone call was to deliver other bad news. Gas company has been out and will not install meter as per plans. Wont dig under the porch beam (see pics_ The porch is classified an "enclosed structure" (go figure). Thomas Archer's suggestion is not tenable. It will be an eyesore approaching the front door. It will stand out and look horrendously ugly. Can't put plants in front of it as gas guy will need access to read it. So - I've asked for the dimensions of the meter to try and work out where to locate/hide it. Still waiting..... It's not going where they want to plonk it. Seeing the other side of building this week. Not happy! TS suggested "fix" for gas meterLike ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So you can see by the yellow circle, that all the services were neatly tucked around the corner together. Now the blue cross is where TA suggest it be located. I'm not happy as it will be an eyesore for everyone approaching front door. Any suggestions on a proper fix would be welcome. We're planning on a 1200 wide path to go in to line up with the door. This meter will look revolting in that spot. Here is the pics of the jemmied door. Not a good week! I guess it is good that nothing other than the door was damaged or stolen, but not a nice feeling at all. At this stage, I am sure you just want it finished and to get in! Good luck finding a spot for the gas metre.... you certainly don't want it at the front door. Re: Thomas Archer Bayside Build 145Sep 17, 2020 12:19 pm I know. So very annoying. Hearing that this type of thing is quite common doesn't make me feel any better. Gasgate continues. They've now offered to cover costs to move it 3.5 m forward. We have spotlit palms going all down that walkway. One bright note this week- garage door is in. https://thomasarcherbuild.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html - Thomas Archer Homes - Custom Nouveau 41 Re: Thomas Archer Bayside Build 146Sep 17, 2020 12:24 pm Blacktea2sugars I know. Can you put some small bushes between the palms and Have the meter partially hidden by a bush? Still accessible? Re: Thomas Archer Bayside Build 147Sep 17, 2020 12:49 pm yes potentially could hide it amongst plants but not sure we should have to? I mean, we were initially told all fine with pool, then they come out to connect sewer and it's a disaster. A disaster that cost us a lot of #. Now it's all fine with the plans, service locations etc. House is 95% done and it's oh sorry, have to move your gas. So now they've offered to move it 3.5 metres at "their expense" but any further we have to cover. Here is the garage door. Bit skeletal atm but hopefully she puts on more weight tomorrow. Re: Thomas Archer Bayside Build 154Sep 17, 2020 4:06 pm fox81 what are the dimensions of your garage? and can you move the gas meter as close to the front boundary as possible? i assume youll have some sort of fence there, so possibly the best place to obscure it? Just over 50 sqm from memory. 8 x 6.5? I agree with the meter going as close to front fence/footpath as possible. Easier to hid behind a plant/tree. The builder has got back to me and said they will move it a max of 3.5 metres forward at their expense, any more and I have to foot the bill. I don't see why I am paying for any of it, not my stuff up. As far as services go, the three big ones Sewer Gas Power The top two have both needed to be moved. First one cost us well over 20k. Certainly not paying to move the gas. And the power pit was already there from previous owner. Hope they get the water right! https://thomasarcherbuild.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html - Thomas Archer Homes - Custom Nouveau 41 Re: Thomas Archer Bayside Build 155Sep 22, 2020 4:51 pm Door is on and stained.
