Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 26, 2019 10:01 pm Hi Guys We are building a new house at the moment. Today the steel work (reo etc) was done and it looks like the slab pour is all ready to go except the damp proofing membrane (orange plastic) doesn't extend fully into the trenches exposing the sides and the base of the trenches. With the steel all in place it looks like it will be impossible place the plastic in position and tape it up correctly now. I can't see this is correct but am interested if this is more common in the real world. I will talk to the builder tomorrow but would to hear if other people have had similar experiences. Thank you Re: Damp proofing membrane under concrete slab 2Nov 27, 2019 7:50 am Hi dave69 Do you not have a copy of the certified Engineering footing details I suggest when you talk to the Builder you ask for copies If they fob you off phone you local council Building surveyor Always take photos...check for non compliance (of the NCC) which may be a major concern, alternate solutions need to be certified as equivalent or better than what is required in the standards here Evaluations of alternate Solutions Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Damp proofing membrane under concrete slab 3Nov 27, 2019 2:42 pm can you post a photo Foremost Building Expert in Australia, assisting with building problems/disputes, building stage inspections,pre-contract review advice for peace of mind 200 blogs http://www.buildingexpert.net.au/blog Re: Damp proofing membrane under concrete slab 4Dec 04, 2019 6:06 am Hi Guys Thank you for the responses. I got a full copy of the footing design and spoke to the engineer. The footing design and the engineer say where the footings are more than 800mm (they are if measured from the highest side of the trench) the plastic can just be placed down the sides of the the trench leaving the base exposed. Ideally it would have been good if the plastic on the sides went all the way to the bottom but the engineer is happy with the way it is.
