Dear forum,
Building a house at the moment and finishing off external finish.
We have brick render downstairs and hebel render upstairs, all aluminium windows/doors.
Asking my builder about external sealing/caulking of the joins between black aluminium frames and render.
Pic attached.(black protective tape is covering the windows and the frame)
They said they don't caulk the edges, as cracking render is not as issue ( render is more 'flexible' these days), and also give clean lines. The render goes right to the edge of the aluminium and has formed a seal.
My friend who is building, they have caulked all around the edges of their home (albeit with a color that is close to render or frame, but not perfect) and the builder does this with a flexible sealant.
A search on the web says caulking should be done (both by hebel company, and companies that make render)
However, another builder says they dont caulk.
What would be recommended good practice?
Thanks
