The WC depth: 1500mm Toilet depth: ~670mm Door: 720mm Which means that the gap between in front of the toilet and door is ~110mm Part of me would like a 720mm toilet door so it matches the bathroom door across but another part of me is thinking it will be better having more clearance space with a 620mm toilet door. Any thoughts? Re: WC Door Clearance Space? 2Nov 23, 2019 1:55 pm One of the issues with such a small space is that once you’ve stepped into the room you’re standing so close to the toilet that it is then difficult to close the door behind you. Very difficult for people with any physical impairment. We made our toilet 1000mm wide (1800mm long) so this would not be a problem. Suggest you visit a show home that has a similar size toilet as yours, and try it out for size. Re: WC Door Clearance Space? 3Nov 23, 2019 7:44 pm For me I would be putting the door on the wall opposite the toilet. Doors that open outwards are also safer. If someone passed out while on the toilet (might not be you but could be an older visitor) how would you get them out? . . . . no window and and you couldn't force the door without injuring them. Re: WC Door Clearance Space? 4Nov 24, 2019 8:53 am I had the exactly the same situation and solved it by swinging the door out rather than into the toilet space, It works well for me Foremost Building Expert in Australia, assisting with building problems/disputes, building stage inspections,pre-contract review advice for peace of mind 200 blogs http://www.buildingexpert.net.au/blog Re: WC Door Clearance Space? 5Nov 24, 2019 12:08 pm Swinging the door out wouldn’t be ideal for me because potentially the door could hit someone walking to use the bathroom or laundry... I imagined that the door was closer to the toilet in my current rental and if that was the case you would have a take one extra step closer to the wall to close the door. I suppose I’ll leave the decision to my builder and just get used to whether it becomes a 620 or 720 door. Re: WC Door Clearance Space? 6Nov 24, 2019 3:21 pm It's too tight for a 720 door. I've had the exact same scenario in a rental before, it's difficult to get the door shut while standing inside. I recommend making it a 620 door, or making it swing out.
