I read them and look at the content. Just my opinion... I'm allowed to have that. Why are you in the business? Re: Building inspector 8Nov 18, 2019 11:03 am Norfolk, Again I ask, are you in the business? Anybody can can look at any web site. Have a look at: Jims Child Property Inspections Your Building Inspectors. Anybody can look at anyone. Again did I miss your company. Dani asked if we as a collective knew any good ones. When you read the reports on their web sites compared to others, it is clear that they know what they are doing. By the way this is my opinion and I'm sorry if your company was not mentioned. Re: Building inspector 9Nov 18, 2019 2:17 pm @Small Minds I am not in the business. I was a recent customer of Metricon. I started naive but learnt a lot about the industry over a 2 year build where i had to take legal action to get them to build to minimum NCC standards. I experienced behaviours from Metricon that would be considered unconscionable based on the definition of this in the ACL. In the end reasonable quality was delivered however at the cost of significant family stress and about $85,000 extra expenses. I hope my learning can help others to avoid what I experienced. I appreciate your opinions and guidance to others. Prospective customers should consider carefully how to leverage the most benefit from using a building inspector. I also respect that in your earlier posts you have openly declared your association with Darbecca for forum members to consider when you are recommending them. Re: Building inspector 11Sep 20, 2020 7:28 pm Jizzibi Norfolk Why do you consider most of the other inspectors are âtry hardsâ. Whatâs the basis of this statement? Because small minds owns darbecca Is it true? Re: Building inspector 12Sep 21, 2020 12:05 pm ConfusedSoul Jizzibi Norfolk Why do you consider most of the other inspectors are âtry hardsâ. Whatâs the basis of this statement? Because small minds owns darbecca Is it true? Jizzibi, Bad guess mate. I wish! By the way, I no longer blog on this Forum. For some reason I got a notice on this one. I have turned that off. Have a great day. Like Norfolk, I was a Metricon Client that had a very bad experience. I used New Home Inspections on my home in Point Cook. Had to move out whilst it was repaired. Since then I have leant a thing or two. Just sharing my opinion with others. New Home Inspectors tends to attract quite a few former builders from the Smith and Sons Extensions and Renovations franchise to work for them as inspectors. At least one of their former Smith and Sons franchisee builders has a VCAT dispute against him in the works. Re: Building inspector 14Sep 12, 2021 9:11 am I would add that the private building inspection industry in Victoria is not well regulated. Other states require them to be licensed by the relevant building authority but that is not the case in Victoria. There has been a high rate of builder insolvencies in Victoria and many of those failed builders turn their hand to building inspections. Some of these larger inspector companies may also be hiring failed builders as inspectors. I know of at least one case where the inspector omitted to tell the franchisor that his building licence had been suspended. This particular ex-builder, ex-franchisee, has gone on to set up his own inspection company. They only have to do a short course and they can call themselves a building inspector. Would you trust an inspection report completed by a failed or deregistered builders? Do your due diligence and check with the VBA if your inspector has ever held a building licence which is no longer active, and also check the insolvency notices. good luck. Re: Building inspector 15Sep 12, 2021 10:24 am Building Inspector is a name reserved under Building Act 1993 for registered building practitioners who undertake mandatory inspections under the building permit. Independent inspections are not regulated and may be carried out by anyone. Just like in US a peanut farmer can become the President so here, peanut brains and opportunists and pretenders can become independent building consultants. Having said that some of the independent consultants are actually registered building inspectors, or builders, or tradies, or engineers, architects etc, but many are not and never built anything. So it is very important to actually enquire into the qualification and experience, longevity and reputation of your building consultant because there will be wide range of competence, do your research and then make up your own mind. If they don't list their qualifications and experience then for me that is a red flag. There seems to have been a huge growth of 'building consultants' in recent times who are selling their 'expertise' in conducting building inspections on your home through the various stages of a build. A few of them claim to only use 'qualified' builders, but don't state if they have a current building licence. A red flag. Some of them I suspect declared insolvency due to a building dispute involving them! Re: Building inspector 17Jan 02, 2022 5:06 pm I can add my experience with Darbecca. As I mentioned in my build thread, we chose a full set of inspections at each stage. They were very thorough and the reports were detailed with all necessary photos. I considered it very good value for money and I would use them again. I would send it to the certifier who is technically your representative and working on your behalf not the builder's 1 2217 I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 45434 Adam Baines Grad Cert Bldg Surv / Grad Dip Bldg Surv / MSAAPA Accredited Building Professional APB20210035 Builders Lic 183023 Pest Control Lic 84868 Ph 0412202336 PO… 3 46746 |
