Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 03, 2019 3:18 pm Hello all, My builder does not install floor wastes in the bathroom, however I insisted on getting this done and paying out of pocket for floor wastes in all 3 bathrooms areas + 1 laundry room. Now that the foundation and slabs are put in place, I found that floor wastes pipe are let out to the sides of the house (where there is going to be a garden or turf or some plants). Can this be fixed? Should'nt the floor waste pipes be connected to the drain/sewage pipes instead sides of the house, leading to the lawn in the sides? I asked why this is being done, and I was told that the this could give out bad smell from the sewage and requires pouring water regularly? I found some material online which recommends that floor waste should be connected the sewage along with a U trap. https://www.health.gov.au/internet/publ ... nt-l-ch2.6 Please advice, if I should like this as is or take it up with the builder since I am paying 4K for getting the floor wastes installed. It's simply a drain to the outside of the building for any overflow water. If you have a slab on ground, these wastes may run into a riser pipe below ground level or simply exit above ground if your slab is raised. They typically have a flap on the outlet to prevent bugs walking up them and into the house. The other option is a floor waste gully. Typically all the wastes from plumbing in the room run to the one floor waste gully that has a trap to prevent smells and then that runs into the sewerage line. Either is acceptable, however $4k to install dry wastes seems excessive. I actually thought floor wastes were mandatory. Maybe it depends on which state your in. Qld Re: Floor waste pipe connected to the sides of the house 5Jul 03, 2019 6:02 pm So in Qld floor wastes are not required, hence the extra cost by builder. Dry floor wastes as you have described are acceptable. $4k is a crazy price for the supply of dry floor wastes but that's another issue. I'm paying 4K for 2 bathrooms + 1 WC + 1 laundry area: - water proofing the floor area - plumbing work - slope on the floor to make sure water does not stand in the areas where the floor waste is provided Makes me wonder if the pricing is right for all of the above Re: Floor waste pipe connected to the sides of the house 8Nov 14, 2019 1:12 pm SejaeD chippy So in Qld floor wastes are not required, hence the extra cost by builder. When I worked at Metricon the VIC crew thought we were crazy in NSW for requiring floor wastes Really? I was told this was one of the things a lot of people either underestimate, forget or didn't even know existed unless they asked for it on the options list. IMHO they are a must either on the top floor of a double storey and in the laundry in order to prevent flooding into other rooms and potentially saving on lots in damage costs. Having said that I've not seen one single floor waste ever installed in the kitchen (dishwasher) or toilet in Australia. I can understand floor waste pipes and grates would be an eyesore in the kitchen but a plumber friend of mine reckons he's fixed a leaking toilet in a house once where it didnt have a floor waste pipe nearby and it stank like hell even 6 months after it was fixed. isn't a garage level with the rest of the house a given? pretty sure they 'came around' long time ago. if you have a flat block, the garage is usually level with the rest… 1 13353 OK it's been a little while!
