It was great to read some of your specific quotes with extras - it's handy to know. I'll definitely being keeping this in mind for future reference!! Metricon Where? 12Dec 30, 2006 11:05 am Hi Adrian
Was that in Victoria or another state you built? Great to hear a good story. We have heard at least one similar story for Metricon, though another suggests they had some delays. If you have time for a short comment on BB it would be appreciated. Best Regards Re: And now for a positive story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 13Jan 15, 2007 12:28 pm Hi BB
Yes it is in Victoria. I had to take the photos down as I needed the web space for other projects. If anyone wnts another view, please PM me. Adrian B Re: And now for a positive story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 14Jan 25, 2007 12:01 pm Mr Adrian B!
What an awesome result! I'm so happy for you! Can you believe that we are still yet to sign our fixed price contract! The surveyors didn't complete the land survey because of a 'pile of dirt' on the block. Conflicting stories and all that.... Moving on... but what a refreshing post to read!! THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL!!! (maybe?!) Anyhow - house is devine. Love your work Hope to share my own happy ending at Christmas 2007! Re: And now for a positive story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 15Feb 05, 2007 10:31 am Hi Adrian,
Lovely house, and I'm glad to hear a success story from Metricon (not that I've really heard any stories). We are about to start the whole process of building with them (in Werribee as it happens!) this month hopefully. We want to be in by the end of the year, so I think that should work out about right. I have a few non-important questions for you re:501 and Metricon in general. After going with my sister to her second appointment with B (see sandii's post in general) I realised how little they had on offer to choose from and immediately thought "what will our experience be like when we have to choose"... 1) Could you please tell me what the "brands" Metricon use are - like laminate benches eg. Parbury, Laminex, Formica, etc 2) Were there plenty of choice in "Standard" things, and were the "standard" good enough or were the upgrades no comparison... meaning you would definitely want upgrades to most things = more $$$. 3) Not sure if this applies, but if there was something you were after specifically, would they allow you to choose something that they didn't necessarily have on display as long as it was from their same supplier, and just pay the extra over their allowance. I just want to be able to have a pretty good idea of colours and choice before we go so it makes the whole selection process that bit less stressful. All of our dealings with Metricon so far have been fantastic - considering we have an unusual shaped block and they are willing to alter their plan so it will work - which we found a lot of other builders refused/couldn't be bothered doing. Also the fact that we were set on a plan and as of the end of '06 has been discontinued - so have found a suitable replacement after a lot of preliminary work had already been done for us. Thanks, Ray. Thanks, Ray. Hi "FTR' Thanks for the comments, here are some answers for you. Studio 501. I found the range plentiful for the things we were looking at, there wasnt anything that we didnt see that we wanted, except for a glass splashback. Not sure of the brand of laminate, will see if I have a sample at home. We found the standard range very good, and did not upgrade many items. They changed the 'level' of what was standard, so many of what we looked at as standard were very good quality already. Remember, not many people dont come into your hause and go "oh my god, I love your door handles, where can I get them??" Look at what you want to upgrade to, and what you need to upgrade to. Remember, all the toilets are there for one reason (or maybe 2 or three) Do you need to spend $550 extra, I think not. Do you NEED profile doors, as opposed to standard? Do you NEED airconditioning? Colors Visit as many Metricon Display homes as possible and see what they have. When you see what you like, you can get the details from Metricon regarding the colors. Then, go to Bristol Paints, and ask for sample cards of those colors. Taken them home, and see what you think. Remember, Experienced Color consultants and interior decorators have been paid to choose those colors, why go through all the pain again. I found the color consultants to be brutally honest, which is excellent. A little story on this. I heard another consultant try to turn a client of a bright orange wall color for the entire house (not feature walls). I saw the color, and almost died. The consultant asked the client to go to the paint store and get a sample of the color made up in a 1 litre pot. she also arranged for some large cardboard sheets, and asked the client to go home, paint the cardboard, let it dry and put it in their house. They came back the next day to change their colors. If you have a chat to our wonderful, most helpful and gracious 'on board' color guru Michelle (did I suck up enough) she might give you some tips to avoid. Or you could engage her services as well?? Also do a search of her informative posts as well for some tips. As for non displayed items, I would sugest you bring that up with the consultant at 501 and they can see what they can do. Finally, here is an update for the pictures http://public.fotki.com/agb06/outside/ After 4 days in the sun, some 720m of merbau timber, 120m bearers / joists, 30 holes in clay and rock plus similar concrete posts, 8 kilos of nails (no nail guns were used,), 14 litres of oil and 10 cubic metres of concrete, our latest additon to the house is now complete. Also our developer has nearly completed landascaping our front yard, after I added the 3 inch slab of redgum for the Red urn we will be buying. Tanks are on order - 3 months away.... Adrian B[ Re: And now for a positive story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 17Feb 05, 2007 1:22 pm Sorry to be a pain,
Do you know who they use for bricks - It think that will be the HARDEST choice. Hopefully I can go to some display centres and get a good idea before selection. Any other brands would be most helpful, but I'll check out Bristol for some colours I have in mind. I believe they use Beaumonts for tiles, so I also plan on going into the Beaumont's showroom and having a good look there too. We don't plan on upgrading a lot - the current promo incudes ceasarstone benches in the kitchen and glass splashback, as well as high ceilings and extra cupboards in the kitchen and laundry... which were things we considered upgrading anyway. We have decided to put down lights throughtout the main living areas (entry, kitchen, dining, lounge, etc) which is additional, and outside lightpoints (which are hard to do later), but I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they have on offer when we go - and from what you've said the standard things are of good quality and are appealing anyway. Also when you were selecting colours etc, were they able to do a computer generated look, or were you just relying on little samples to colour match? Also, did you get to take any samples with you for future reference (i we won't be getting carpet through M, so would like samples to match up colours later, but before it's finished). I'm probably worrying and asking about irrelevant things... Thanks Ray. Second Time 'Round Studio 501 18Feb 05, 2007 2:05 pm I am also building in Tarneit with Metricon at the moment. The laminates are parbury and you get a wide range. The bricks and roof tiles are from Austral. The floor tiles are from Beaumonts. The paint is no longer Bristol but Taubmans (new variation out last week). They give you a selection (builders standard 1) and anything else from the manufacturer is available for a price.
I also did not choose to get Metricon to do my deck (price). I am building a MetriconFirst home so my selection range esp. for tiles was even more limited. I felt that I was slightly rushed through Studio 501 (2 hours from start to finish) It would have been better to go through before and find out what was standard and then go back after looking at installations of those selections (showrooms and houses in construction). I had to chase them to even find out the manufacturers before hand - let alone what was the standard selection. The thing that took the longest was the kitchen - mainly because with MetriconFirst you only get 5 tile colours selection ranges (cream, brown, 2 greys and one other I cannot remeber) which I did not know about before I went in (never mentioned by salesman). The speed with which the house is going up is amazing (deposit end of July, slab laid late November, lock up last friday and the plaster is up already!). Re: And now for a positive story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 19Feb 05, 2007 2:36 pm Hi First Timer Ray
Just a suggestion re your bricks. After having visited the selection centre where you can view and choose from square metre laid, ask for the address of a house in your area built with the same brick. It will make your selection not necessarily easier but with more confidence. Regards and good luck PDO Re: And now for a positive story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 20Feb 05, 2007 3:25 pm Pom down under Hi First Timer Ray Just a suggestion re your bricks. The brick we wanted was at Studio 501, but the sample had faded to a diffrent color. Ours were Boral bricks. Ring Boral, ask them for an address where xxxx brick is being used and do a drive by, you might be suprised in the variation. As for the colors I would suggest you look at a tour of Studio 501 on a Sunday (if they still do them) and see what they say. Things might have changed now they have changed suppliers.
