Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 05, 2019 4:06 pm Hi everyone, First time poster but I’ve been lurking for a while. We are doing a KDR on our farm in rural Vic and building the Davenport 30. The demo is complete and we are now “townies” for the next year or so. We have our studio M appointment soon and am wanting to know a few things before we have this. For those of you that already built with Metricon did you upgrade the oven from the Teka brand? If not how have you found the quality so far? I am wanting to have two 600mm undermount ovens because we previously had a 900mm freestanding but am thinking long term two smaller ones is more economical and also allows different cooking temps. On our studio m tour it was explained that if you want to change appliances Harvey Norman is the supplier and you can have anything they stock. I would assume there’s a mark up and just wondering how much this would be? It was explained the same with Reece plumbing- also assuming a markup on their website prices. I am also wanting to know what other upgrades people did that they found essential or any that they regret not doing or maybe some they wished they didn’t bother doing? We like a category 5 brick - Access Tan so hoping the upgrade isn’t too excessive. We have chosen to have the raked ceiling in the kitchen/living/dining like displayed in the warragul display home. We have also chosen to add on an extra bathroom. We have upgraded to double glazing throughout and thicker aluminum for the stacker sliding door and added on the grand outdoor room and butlers pantry. Because we are building on the farm we really want to make sure we make the right structural upgrades because we will not be selling in 10years- it will be our family home and we are not moving from the farm so any mistakes we make we will be living with. Please no negative comments/fear invoking about going with a project builder/Metricon. We know the time frame will most likely blow out and we are prepared for that. We will also engage in an external building assessor (3 stages seems common). We know it won’t all be smooth sailing and will probably be some hiccups but we expect that. Any advice is appreciated Thank you Re: Metricon advice 3Nov 10, 2019 3:46 pm I had technika in my old house that built by builder owner. I am very happy with their quality. I am currently building a new house with custom builder and choose technika again. In term of Metrion as a builder, their quality overall for building is not my standard, all their standard materials is low quality and their upgrade is extortion !!!! I paid 1500$ and got tender and plan, found out that they use crap material like cladding, , so I pulled out !! Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time.
