Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 2Sep 24, 2008 9:17 pm We are building Adelaide, we liked the Stateman designs but wanted more changes than they allowed. You might want to ask the sales people who owns Statesman.

Welcome to the forum We,re building at Mount Compass, south of Adelaide with Hickinbotham Homes. As far as I know Statesman homes are associated with Hickinbotham. I know there,s a couple of people on here that have or are building with statesman. Friends of ours have signed up with them and are due to start building soon and they seem pretty happy with them so far Good luck with everything and look forward to following your progress! Cheers Mel Building on 9 acres Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 5Sep 26, 2008 7:09 am Hi Shean, Mel and D
Thanks for your replies . It sounds like a few people are building with statesman - hickinbotham homes. Yes i believe that they are one and the same builder. Our plans are to demolish and rebuild on our existing block, but it is very early stages for us with a lot of research and observations happening at this stage. I will be interested to hear how you or your friends get on with their building. Regards G Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 6Sep 26, 2008 9:48 am We are also in the process of signing up with hickinbotham, thus far they have been fantastic!
we printed out a review we found of them at productreview and drop it over to our sales guy yesterday. we ended up having a long chat with his manager about it last night. will post more about this shortly. Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 7Sep 26, 2008 1:17 pm Hi Natnat
It,s good to hear or someone else on the forum that,s building with Hickinbotham. Just a bit of advice though....make sure that you keep onto them...don,t assume that things are happening...always ring them to make sure. We made the mistake of assuming that all was going well (pre-build stage) but after no communication with them for the first 4 months other than talking to the sales consultant (who was fantastic by the way!) To cut a long story short...it took them nearly 11 months to start building We signed up July 07...slab went down May 29th 08 They are now about half way through the brickwork stage,so I don,t think our plans for moving in before Christmas will come to fruition We are really happy with the quality of their workmanship though, the only odd thing that we have found though is that you don,t get assigned a site supervisor until the roof goes on so it was up to us to check the frame etc. If you are interested I started a thread a while ago about the progress of our build called " I can,t believe they,ve finally started!" I haven,t updated it for a while as there wasn,t much happening but I,m hoping to take some pics on the weekend. Anyway having said all of that,we are really happy with how it,s going now,but just wish that the process wasn,t so loooooooooong Cheers Mel p.s sorry to hijack the thread Building on 9 acres Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 8Oct 01, 2008 1:40 pm Is there anyone else in adelaide building with statesman homes? Also if statesman and hickinbotham homes are the same company would one expect the same build quality - service from either builder. Thanks for your thoughts.

Since heard many others with the same story and worse, be carefull, very carfull. Yes they are the same company as hickinbotham, and I have been put through to them when ringing statesman and they can not answer my problem. Have now changed to another builder. Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 10Oct 01, 2008 3:35 pm Hi there,
We just moved into our recently built statesman home. We built a modified 'clarendon'. We have been more than happy with the whole build process, and would not hesitate to build with them again. Having said that, I think it really comes down to who your site supervisor is, we got lucky and got a guy who was really good at his job, was easily contactable and good to deal with, he even answered his phone if you rang him I really think it comes down to house design. If Stateman have the plan you like, then go for it. If we built agian, and another company had a fantastic plan with an acceptable reputation, then I would go with them. As for sales people, we initially had a real nob, and we said we didnt want to deal with him so they gave us another sales person. In hindsight, it didnt matter... after doing the initial paperwork, and signing the contract, we never had contact with a sales person again, just glad that 'nob head' didnt get the commission... Every company is going to have issues, none of them are perfect. I have heard of people having issues with higher end builders, boutique builders and the larger mass produced home builders. Again, if they have the design you really want, go for it. At the end of all that, had a great build, thumbs up for stateman from me. Surely your smart enough to work out yourself if a house is going to fit on a block. Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 12Oct 01, 2008 4:42 pm I disagree - if you buy a house/land package, where x plan house is to go on x block, the builder should know if it is going to fit.
The buyer has bought the entire package in good faith that it will go together as advertised. Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 14Oct 01, 2008 5:45 pm port 67
When you have a house and land pack and the sales guy draws the house as to how it will be positioned you would think they new what they were doing. BAD MISTAKE The house was just within the boundery But I was asured it did fit,as it was drawn on a plan in front of me. Three months later I was told it does not fit I was told to chop one metre out of the middle or back of the house, HALLOW NO NO NO. This was twelve months ago and have still not had any appoligy, all I got was oh well what do you want us to do. And as I have said I have heard many stories the same. The builder I am with at the moment is not very good on comunication, so things take a while to get fixed when wrong, only three so far. At least they can fit a house on the land and a big one at that. Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 15Oct 28, 2008 12:49 pm Hi,
We've been in the "process" of building a house for the last 18 months, I just found this site. We're building with Statesman (Hickinbotham/Statesman are one and the same and both fall under the Construction Services Australia banner). We have land in the Hickinbotham "Coast" estate in Seaford Rise and can honestly say we've have NOTHING go right for us. We have had a back up hold on land since April 2007, after mysterious engineering issues and no contact (unless initiated by us) we secured and paid a deposit on the land and signed our contract in July 2007. I won't bore you with the intricate details (unless you really want to know)....suffice to say we are now still waiting for our slab to be poured. It has been 18 months all up. They tried to start about a month ago, but of course the dramas haven't ended even though we've been issued an OK to start date (8th of August), it was wrongly positioned and sat there for a few weeks with no communication, again. The lot has been ripped up and started again. We are now at the "orange plastic stage" again, have been for the last week, and have now been told after chasing them up that concrete won't be poured until next week. I am so utterly fed up and disheartened building with them that I will eat my boot if we actually have a house at the end of all of this Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 16Oct 28, 2008 2:32 pm Hi Infinite Loop
I am so sorry to hear about all of the trouble that you,re having I know how you feel.....we signed up with Hickinbotham July07 and our bricks have just been finished..... It has been a very frustrating process made even worse by the complete lack of communication It took them 11 months for the contract stage...we have no idea why as the council only took 2 weeks for approval and we really haven,t changed the plan at all. There,s so much more that I could say,but won,t,so I wish you lots of luck and really hope that they get it right this time! P.S the communication is so much better now that they have started building,so hang in there Cheers Mel Building on 9 acres Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 17Oct 28, 2008 3:58 pm Hi Mel,
I saw at the start of this thread you're building at Mt Compass. Lovely down there Our development is Hickinbotham houses only, and the general feeling in that place is Hickinbotham is incompetent. We have spoken to a few of our neighbours and they have all had dramas regarding the length of time taken to get to the construction stage. We thought that it would take around 5 or 6 months when we originally signed up, how wrong we were! On a happy note, I just did a quick drive by and they have done our carport and lower level of the house (slab). I will hopefully go back up and take some photos before it gets dark...I didn't take the camera as I am so sick of packing it and driving down there to find nothing has happened! I am glad your communication issues picked up after building started. I have been really angry with the way they've taken our money and then run away...contacting us only for more money. Even when there's a problem we've had to chase them up because things have been sitting idle for months. Anyway, I've now enrolled the kids in a school down there starting term 1 next year, so I will be really angry if things are delayed further. I don't fancy driving down there twice a day for the next 12 months because of their incompetence Re: Any comment on statesman homes ? 18Jun 30, 2010 11:54 am Hi All, Sorry to comment on an Old Thread, however me and my partner just recently signed a contact with Statesman Homes to build the "Evanston" modified in Parafield Gardens..
