Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 20, 2019 1:12 am Hello all . Have 334 sq m block . Would love some builder recommendations please . Been to redink , content and blue print . Would like to visit few more before we commit . And also is it cheaper to get the basic one ( without the inclusions ) or the all inclusions plans when choosing a design .would appreciate your recommendations please . Thanks Re: Builder recommendations on a tight budget 3Oct 20, 2019 6:25 pm The best value for money is likely to be from one of BGC residentials companies. These include Perceptions (2 storey), commodore homes, Impressions, homestart etc. They are cheaper because they manufacture their own bricks, windows etc. Summit homes group has some great designs, and their New Generation brand has some great value for money loft designs. You are usually better off buying the basic model and adding the things you want. This is because some companies charge a higher markup percentage on their deluxe products compared to choosing basic and upgrading. Re: Builder recommendations on a tight budget 5Oct 21, 2019 9:29 am Hi Phuntsho welcome to the forum If you are on a tight budget I suggest you own an independent sketch, preliminary site report and engineering and get 3 Builders to quote on the same information, here my2c 1.Comparing 3 different designs and specs from builders becomes complex and confusing. 2.Each builder owns copyright on their designs so you will be unable to get other builders to quote and compare 3.Perth home market is at rock bottom, yet some builders refuse to drop prices, instead they choose to give away inflated upgrades 4.Beware of cheap house base prices and price gouging on contract variations 5.Site works and engineering is an easy target for some unscrupulous builders to Go after clients for Tens of thousands in extras, after you have handed over a deposit for preparation of Plans 6. The more people builders ie. BGC employ the higher the build cost... it's basic economics 7. Shop Around with the right info, data, etc and put them (eg Builders and suppliers) to the test OT great time to build, Trade rates are low, Big material manufacturers discounts, quick finish times, Internet electrical/Plumbing suppliers are offering big discounts for house lots, many wholesalers Supply and fix at great rates, etc, etc. If you need access to examples Post back with a sketch or PM me Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Builder recommendations on a tight budget 6Dec 16, 2019 11:43 pm this is so true !!! 5.Site works and engineering is an easy target for some unscrupulous builders to Go after clients for Tens of thousands in extras, after you have handed over a deposit for preparation of Plans Re: Builder recommendations on a tight budget 7Dec 20, 2019 12:58 pm Agree with amilelka. BGC would offer the lowest cost and usually they can get really competitive. Ross North usually is much more expensive, good build quality though. Celebration (ABN) is a good option too, you get what you see in their display. Or you can try Easystart (Summit). Would stay away from Redink or B1, lots of bad reviews. Look for online reviews though places like productreview only shows good reviews. Make sure take notes of those reviews with "Review collected in partnership with [BUILDER NAME]". Those reviews are potentially untrue. Coming back to your old stomping grounds, huh? Renovations on a budget can be quite the journey. It's like giving your house a new lease on life.
