Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 28, 2019 7:26 am Hey everyone just after some expert advice on our slab, first of all they done a great job however one of the contractors broke our kitchen drain pipe at the base when they were doing the slab pour, so they done the right thing and didn't just bury it in concrete haha . BUT my concern now is that they boarded around it and continued the whole slab . The pipe is now fixed with the termite barrier re installed etc so that is all good and they plan on re pouring that section on Friday . Our concern is will this be a problem in the future and will the new concrete adhere to the existing slab? or doesn't it really matter?.Thanks in advance. Thanks for the advice Re: Expert on Slab Advice please 4Mar 28, 2019 8:26 am OT, Technically, the engineer would have specified a round polystyrene (lol, now a dirty word) blockout, which is easier to remove, round holes don't crack (stress distribution) Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Expert on Slab Advice please 5Mar 28, 2019 8:49 am StructuralBIMGuy OT, Technically, the engineer would have specified a round polystyrene (lol, now a dirty word) blockout, which is easier to remove, round holes don't crack (stress distribution) Im not sure what all that means haha Is there anything i should look out for with how they re pour the concrete or should they somehow reinforce it first with reo or pegs drilled into the original slab??i have asked for photo evidence of how they repair it. cheers again Re: Expert on Slab Advice please 6Mar 28, 2019 9:19 am The hole is insignificant, no need for pins... cheers Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Expert on Slab Advice please 7Mar 28, 2019 9:22 am StructuralBIMGuy The hole is insignificant, no need for pins... cheers Awesome that’s a relief to hear thanks again mate Re: Expert on Slab Advice please 12Mar 29, 2019 5:37 pm MyFirst Thanks. A similar thing happened to the house we are building. This was caused by machinery they used to excavate during the external drains excavation. This is what the builder has to say. Does this make sense or are they taking the easy way out? 2. The practice of reducing the drainage points within the slab back to slab level is a standard need, the pipes will when appropriate have an internal sleeve fitted and for some a reducer also.
