Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Hallbury Homes 2Oct 14, 2019 5:00 pm We engaged Hallbury Homes to quote our custom design home with detailed plans & specifications from our architect. To do this we unreservedly signed an agreement for Hallbury to tender building our home and paid a $1,000 fee. I did so under the impression that a professional business like Hallbury Homes would as they stated in their correspondence "prepare a detailed tender for construction of your project and will ask the sales rep to confirm his availability to present this to you" based on the scope of work items listed below:
• conduct a site inspection – DID NOT HAPPEN. • obtain site information relating to the title and planning scheme – NO DETAIL PROVIDED. • analyse supplied floor plans, site and soil reports, planning permits and engineering – DID NOT APPLY SPECIFICATIONS PROVIDED. • structural analysis – DOUBT THIS HAPPENED. • feasibility study and quantity survey – LACK OF DETAIL AND INCORRECT SPECS. • establish your specifications and inclusions – DEFINITELY DID NOT HAPPEN. • prepare a Preliminary Cost Estimate confirming all inclusions and Estimated Build Pricing What we ACTUALLY got was a rushed half-baked quote lacking in detail, not following the building specifications and a salesman who had never seen the job details before and therefore completely unable to present anything of value too us. Several factors have made me concerned that the latter has occurred. The lack of contact (1 month delay in getting a response from anyone at Hallbury after paying the $1000), the minimal details availed to us, and the admission from the Sales rep himself that he did not know the details of the quote nor the project (which was the complete opposite to why we paid the $1000!!!) as well as admitting that "Hallbury Homes had not done a good enough job and you should be receiving a full refund", all point to the fact that I have not obtained what I paid for. The meeting with the sales rep was certainly the most disappointing given the hour to drive to the meeting and for him to tell us after 5 minutes "probably best you chose the other builder you are working with" which led him to suggest the full refund. When the $1000 was paid, an expectation is set given what the scope of works listed, unfortunately this was certainly not delivered. Re: Hallbury Homes 3Oct 16, 2019 9:01 pm builditup Hi all, Anybody built with Hallbury Homes? What do you think of their build quality and standard inclusions? Was trying to sense what price to expect per square to build a 35 square home. Any feedback would be great. Hi builditup We paid a deposit to them to design us a Custom House, after walking away from another builder who was farcical with timeframes, costs and communication. As we already had soils and survey, Hallbury discounted the design service fee (yay) and said 3 weeks until we'd have a set of plans and 3D virtual to look at. Nearly 6 weeks later (and many increasingly unhappy emails from myself) I was told that their estimating department was a man down due to paternity leave. Ok The house plans were ok, but not what we were after. Toilet in a crazy stupid spot (front wall of house, and we have kids and a pool, like duh!) I am sure we could have altered the plans but by that stage I was frustrated and over it. Friends built in the same suburb as us late last year/this year, and while their house is done and they have moved in, there are numerous issues (as you get with ALL builders, not just H). Unless you LOVE a design, I'd probably suggest moving on. There are numerous delays in the building industry, but when things get stretched out so early on in the journey, it's not a good sign. Make sure your finish completion date compensation clause is reviewed and understood! Re: Hallbury Homes 5Oct 18, 2019 10:39 am builditup Hi all, Anybody built with Hallbury Homes? Extreme major problems, Defects with multiple people coming forward with their horror stories. Do not be fooled by persuasive talk. Do yourself a favour and save yourself the headache and find another reputable builder.
