G'day All. Can anyone tell me the minimum requirement in relation to the finish of structural concrete inside a garage. As you can see on the photos, our builder Rawson have stated that they will do nothing in regards to the finish of the drop edge beam concrete which is in our garage. I have spoken to a few ex builders and they believe it doesn't comply and can't believe that Rawson are going to leave it as is. Anyone know if they have to at least leave a smooth finish?

In our unit block there was plenty of exposed structural concrete in the garage with zero finishing over the top. Being a garage and not a living area I don't like your luck of forcing them to cover it.
It is no different to how they finish drop edge beams externally, all of ours (which in some areas look much higher than yours) are all going to be left exposed.

Hi Simon, I don't think it breaches any regulations to leave the concrete riser the way it is. But, the fact that you are unhappy with it aesthetically should be considered by the builder. It really doesn't take much time or effort to coat such a small area with a cementitious compound to satisfy the client. Only a couple of hours.
Good luck with it.

Things like this are frustrating when you spend so much $ with them, that surely they could help you out.
It may not be worth the hassle mate, I'd suggest $80-100 worth of concrete paint and just paint over it to blend in with the wall perhaps?
