Tree cutting

Hi All, Just wondering that do we need permission to cut trees on the house land? Not on council land. Land is in the Brisbane city council limit. Any ideas please? Thanks in advance

Fellow Perth dweller. Looks like pruns nigra. It's a dark leaf flowering plum. Doesn't get massive and is easily trimmed deciduous tree. Very popular in small gardens in Perth
