Build on a slope

Build design includes few steps in the middle of the house as there is a slope in that lot. It is like half of the house in one level and another half is few steps below towards backyard. But I am not sure what are all the things to consider for such layouts ? builder gives only 6 year structural warranty . Is it safe to build on a slope? in case of heavy rain or extreme weather conditions , what are the factors to check from building design or material prespective
