Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 20, 2019 10:20 am Hi Guys We are looking at a block which has plans for a house with brick and render. Our builder has advised that we could save around $10,000 going for a 'foam render' solution. Wanted to know is this non-ideal? I have done some initial research and it seems like it is a better insulator, but not as durable over the long term. Also on the council endorsed plans it says brick render, although foam render would achieve the exact same look the builder has advised. Would this need to be run via council first? Thanks in advance Re: Brick Render vs Foam Render 2Aug 20, 2019 9:41 pm The foam is generally a thinner wall than brickwork so there is small difference around doors & windows. Most foam render systems are non-cavity construction and require painting on top of the render and sealing around all openings. The foam can be damaged easily by ladders against wall, garage bins, bikes etc. Oh no! I would use a can of expandable foam ( there are some that will take render) then cut it back and render over the top 1 4108 There is nothing in the various codes and standards that puts this requirement on the builder to do.
