Hi,
My builder is quoting for Fibre to the Premises, which is incorrect and much more expensive and that part of Bentley (WA) is FTTN or Fibre to the Node anyway. Having dug the trench and helped the telephone installer install the NBN line, I can expertly (ex-has been, squirt-drip under pressure!) say what is involved and how cheap it is:
From the pit a twisted pair telephone cable (cheap) gets sent via a P20 conduit (cheap) to the wall plug in the house and there the NBN modem (max. $164 - Aussie Broadband) gets plugged in. Mind you, in the pit a twisted pair end was already there and did not have to be connected to the Telstra "distributor".
To connect fibre then into the house from a pit is more complex and definitely more expensive. I am supposed to pay $1,100 for this NBN "fibre package" and will argue the case.
