We are thinking is building a new house on our block in Brisbane, it’s a slope block and we are thinking of cut and fill so we can have a basement underneath the two story house.
We have spoken to some volume builders but they don’t build on split base, therefore we have to find a custom builder or an architect.
We have spoken to two architects but their building cost per squeak meters are $3000 and $3500, we want a house of 300 square metres, that would be $900k plus and on top of that, 10% to 15% of architect fees plus engineering, DA approval etc, it will blow our budget.
Looks like custom builder is the way to go. Ownit Hines recommended a few of them: chelbrook, Macarthy, kustom and Kalka. We did some googling for the first two, they have got some bad reviews and really scared us.
We would really appreciate if you can share some of your experiences.

I'm also currently searching for volume builders in Brisbane that can do split level/habitable areas on first floor due to overland flow area. I think Dixon might have split level (look at the FR85xx designs) that could work for you. Their website only works properly in Internet Explorer.
