Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Rawson Windermere 3Mar 05, 2017 4:03 pm Yes, we are planning to KDR a Windermere Vogue facade later in the year, just accepted the tender. We've enlarged it a bit and completely redesigned the first floor. Still to decide on a staircase and colours. Re: Rawson Windermere 5Mar 08, 2017 7:59 pm We've made the front lounge and 5th bedroom (the media room in the display home) a bit wider and the family/kitchen at the back a little deeper, ditto the alfresco. Hopefully that makes sense. Upstairs the bedrooms are just moved around a bit to take advantage of the block and views that would have been lost otherwise. Did you make any major changes to the design? Re: Rawson Windermere 6Mar 09, 2017 7:04 am Our house started out as the 28 downstairs and a 32 upstairs...but then it grew! We have very young children so want a playroom downstairs to hide any mess (media room) until they are old enough to move upstairs. Also on my want list is a 'launch pad/mud room' cupboard- we removed the study nook to fit it in. Very jealous of your extension to the main living area...ours way too narrow due block size Re: Rawson Windermere 8May 13, 2017 7:02 pm Are you doing anything special for the staircase? I have found a few photos on here with a standard Rawson staircase but we are going to try to do something along the lines of the one from the Lux book (which definitely isn't included in the Lux package!) They do so because it's much better in durability compared to the Victorian Ash they currently have in their display homes, and it does show. You'll notice in their display homes that steps made with Victorian Ash are disintegrating. What I did to the stairs, I upgraded the balustrades and handrails only as we find wooden steps super noisy so we kept the carpet. They let me do the handrails with Victorian Ash as they don't get warranty claims with the hand rails as opposed to the steps. Very similar to the display home they have at Googong = https://www.scann3d.com.au/view/v1/rawson-homes-v2/thewindermere/?autoload Re: Rawson Windermere 10Jun 12, 2017 9:33 pm Sounds like you did alright! We have now been advised the stair manufacturer will do french polish or not provide stairs at all, so we are probably going to end up with something like the Googong display had. What did they rush you for the upgraded balustrade/handrails? We are off to colours this week and it is a bit nerve wracking - there's been a lot of 'wait for colours' throughout the process and I expect we will get there and have to sort a whole lot of things quickly. Re: Rawson Windermere 11Sep 09, 2017 11:45 am Hello Team Windermere I've seen more than a few finished or finishing builds in my travels around Canberra lately. Narrabundah has a majestic facade, Denman has a vogue facade just about backing onto a trend facade. Yet to see a classic. Always interesting to see how they have been customised and so many options we weren't aware of during planning phase actually. Re: Rawson Windermere 13May 22, 2018 2:50 pm Steeden Hi, I'm thinking of building the Windermere with Rawson and just wanted to know from all those who have built it, is the quality of the house/finishes good qulaity? Thanks Hey Steeden, I'm building a 32 Windermere with Majestic Facade. I can say my build quality is really good. It took them around 6-7 months for the paperwork but the building process has been really fast. I am on week 6 from a KDR and they are already up to the bricks phase. This is with a granny flat at the back as well. Re: Rawson Windermere 15May 22, 2018 4:14 pm Steeden Hi G1NOSAUR, Thanks for you reply. I have a friend who is a builder and he keeps telling me that the quality of these display/package homes are not as good as if you were to build it yourself but I am inclined to disagree with him. Steeden Ohh ok well it's really each to their own. I mean if I was to build my own house, It would be cheaper as I'd be able to hand pick my own contractors and tradies and it would definitely take a lot longer as it would be my first time doing it and I may even pick contractors that aren't on par with Rawson's already trusted contractors. So really your friend isn't wrong either. In saying that, I don't have the time or the experience to organise the materials and build of my own house so I went with Rawson as the middle man and no regrets! Make sure you wait around for their orange carpet sale as they give you plenty of bonus inclusions nearly worth 50k. Re: Rawson Windermere 18May 24, 2018 1:28 pm This is pure rumour, but I hear they are having a major promotion for their birthday. I'm led to believe it's coming out in early June maybe.
