Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 19, 2021 10:38 am Didn't get much luck in other sections and this is a last minute attempt at some help before we have to make the call. We've had 92mm architraves installed by mistake (instead of a smaller size) in our new build. 31sq house, 2.6m ceilings. So now need to make a call whether to leave them in or get them replaced (with the obvious issues that come with removing and reinstalling trim). As it's just a plain profile we're concerned how a 92mm profile will look in this size of house. Has anyone else built a reasonably similar sized modern style house with larger than standard (67mm) architraves? Personally i think it would look wierd, but I dont have any first hand experience with 92mm arcs. Dark matter scientist, can breathe underwater, mind reader and can freeze matter just by willing it. Trust me, its in my sig. Re: 92mm Architraves - too big? 4May 20, 2021 2:19 pm Noname yeah i dunno. We went with 92mm skirts and 67mm arcs. Personally i think it would look wierd, but I dont have any first hand experience with 92mm arcs. Yeah that was our plan. Went and had a look yesterday and while it’s not what we wanted I don’t think it’s worth the damage and inevitable patchwork that would follow to enforce them to rectify. SS said we could wait to decide when the paint coat goes on but I feel we will probably just have to cop this one. We will get a refund for the upgrade cost but that is a pretty negligible amount. Looks weird to me. It would shiet my wife to tears i reckon. I originally asked for this in a half splayed profile. My builder suggested narrower arc otherwise it would look weird. I think they were right. Ill def. be keeping an eye on mine now. If you can live with it though, keep it. As to damage if you were to swap, i think its being overplayed. Ive had arcs taken of in my current house when resquaring windows they effed up and you wouldnt even know it was done. And if you do, DEFECT! And if you do, DEFECT! Maybe. I think the issue is it wouldn’t be a problem if we were changing size for size. But because we are dropping the size of the trim it would leave a lot of touch up and patch work on that 25mm gap around every window and door. Add on that every skirting would need a 25mm patch at the base of each door as well. Maybe I’m talking myself into it but I just hate the idea of brand new house full of this level of touch ups. Literally every window and door would need work. Yeah just a lose lose situation really. But ultimately, even though it isn’t what we want, it wasn’t offensive in person and hopefully will be something that just goes unnoticed once the house is finished. And, I am sure that once the walls are painted, they will look even better. Re: 92mm Architraves - too big? 10May 21, 2021 3:44 pm I agree with the post above.I really like how it looks. I would lover to have the wide trims but it cost too much. Interesting as well to hear how variable the upgrade cost is for something like this. Our additional cost was $400 to upgrade the skirting to 92mm and incidentally will now get refunded back to us anyway due to the mix up. For our house to change just skirting boards to 92mm and architraves to 67 mm would cost around $1600 according to sales consultant. And that's not including windows trim. Trust me, its in my sig. I do like the CA glue and activator idea but like you said, working time in non existent. I use the sika PU glue but it needs to be clamped firm. I had a joint move… 4 9179 I already have the doors and architraves installed as pictured. My question is which size n type of skirting would go with the architraves?
