Glad to see we have another one joining our Buckingham Group…hehe Thanks for your reply on the width of the fridge alcove. We too thought it was about 1 metre but aren’t too sure whether it would be more like 900mm if you took into account the skirting on either side? Our façade is the Caulfield. It’s the only façade that comes with a bagged & painted finish at no extra cost. Due to Stockland’s design requirements, at least 20% of the front façade had to be a bagged & painted finish. We considered that probably two of the other designs where the portico is bagged and painted like the Nevada or Classique may have sufficed, but to be on the safe side as we didn’t want to go back & forth with Stockland on getting the developer’s approval, we just went with the Caulfield Façade. We didn’t mind that with the Caulfield façade (due to the bagged & painted finish costing more) that we wouldn’t be getting any eaves unless we upgraded (have a look at the façade below). However, we were pleasantly surprised when the final drawings had eaves. We were told at the onset that as the bagged & painted finish cost more, we could only get a SG6 semi solid door i.e. no glass inserts (as per the note included with the façade below). However, when we went for the colour selection, we were given the option to get a door with the glass insert i.e. the XN5 (which are available for the other facades) at no extra cost, so we took it but paid extra to have them frosted for privacy. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The reason we had to extend the portico was due to Stockland’s design guidelines whereby the portico cannot be central to the house i.e. it has to be staggered to either side. The standard design of the Buckingham has the portico being centered and hence, thanks to Stockland we had to pay the additional $1.4k for the portico to be stretched out over the guest room along with the brick piers with a bagged & painted finish. All the best with your decision making. Hope to see you building soon! Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 182Jun 11, 2009 6:36 pm We moved our fridge alcove to the other side of the pantry so we had more bench space either side of the stove. I made it a metre wide but it turned out smaller due to plastering et cetera. Plenty of room for our new Fisher and Paykel french door though. I would have made the depth a tad bigger in hindsight and our pantry door opens into our fridge - been to bunnings today for a new door stop. Our concreting isn't happening - I am furious. Don't ever consider using Sudaro Paving. After waiting four weeks till June 1st - estimated commencement date - we've been put off ever since. It has been wet - fair enough. On Friday I ring and he says definitely this week. On Tuesday he turns up and dumps the job. Says he is too busy and Porter Davis is putting too much pressure on him. Well sorry but you could have told us that weeks ago - or even last week at least. These people (Mark and his harsh wife Anna) had no qualms about leaving us in the lurch and I hope karma catches up with them. Fi has moved in!! And now for him to leave you in the lurch is just plain selfish especially cause you were so understanding with his situation etc. I hope you get someone reliable soon who does a fantastic job for you! Thanks for the info about the fridge, I called NBG and they advised that it's 1 metre wide but your fridge should be within 900mm. Too bad our double door fridge is more like 960mm. Dh wants to get a new fridge with a bigger capacity & stainless steel/pewter finish (current fridge is 650ltr with a white enamel finish). Well time to go shopping! Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 186Jun 11, 2009 9:16 pm Hey Brit That's really crappy from the concreter. I know who never to use in future. I can give you our guys details if you like. He's doing ours next week. Only met him last week and he was supposed to start this week, but the weather's been awful. I'll PM you his number if you like, but he probably wont be able to start until week after next. Let me know. Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 187Jun 12, 2009 12:39 am Thanks for all the info on the facade blessedpeople. I really appreciate your help I will let you know how I am going. Sorry to hear about the problems with your concreter Brit. I'm sure you will be better of with someone else. Sounds like even if Mark did start on you job he would have been in such a hurry he made not have done such good job anyway. Good luck! Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 188Jun 22, 2009 6:11 am Our concreting has started. Darren who was recommended to us dropped by on Wednesday. We received his written quote on Thursday. We liked him a lot and he seemed very proficient. He said he'd complete the job in three weeks. That's acceptable by us. What I didn't understand is that he is starting the job this morning excavating and delivering crushed rock. I'm so excited - no more trudging through mud every day. We had the plumbers back on Thursday to fix one toilet that wouldn't fill, fix a dented down pipe, fix the leaking vanity in the ensuite and to connect water to the evap aircon in the roof. The toilet now fills but won't stop running. Even though there was water marked on the plans to be in the roof it never happened so they had to bring this up from the bathroom. Now there is a heap of plastering and painting to be repaired. Such is life. The balcony is hopefully being retiled this week. Our garage remote which sits on the wall doesn't work. I think that's all that is outstanding. I am still on cloud nine in our house. I went and bought a worm farm on the weekend as I've been watching too much gardening television. Fi has moved in!! Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 189Jun 22, 2009 10:03 am Really pleased to hear you’ve got a concreter on the job Brit. Sorry to hear about the issues that have cropped up in terms of toilet, leaks etc…but the important thing is that it’s all being looked into and fixed. Can’t wait to see the photos of your completed balcony! Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 190Jun 29, 2009 5:31 am Our concreting is finished and looks fantastic. It's just charcoal coloured concrete but really finishes the house. My husband is having colorbond moments standing looking slightly dazed admiring it all day. Quoted Wednesday 17th and was finished on Saturday 27th. There was a team of five of them and I would have to say the most courteous tradespeople on site I've seen. Still to finish - our balcony is to be retiled when it dries out enough, and our bar which is going to be a headache. And telstra!!!! Telstra have become a dirty word in my vocabularly at the moment but that wouldn't suprise anyone. Fi has moved in!! Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 191Jun 30, 2009 2:46 pm I hate telstra a little less today - I finally have a phone line so now I can get in the process of getting adsl2. I have since discovered that there are very few options for adsl2 near the tullamarine exchange so doing lots of reading still trying to break it down. Caroma came and fixed my broken toilet today and the other one which started leaking - ******* plumbers I think. So I have my balcony, bar and I just remembered the water is still not connected in the room to the aircon. Life is so so much better with a driveway!! We're deep in debate about turfing half the back yard and what to do with the rest- cubby house and trampoline. My better half wants tan bark but my boys are having a ball with the tonka trucks and digging at the moment I want them to enjoy it. Then I want them to strip off before they walk in the door! Fi has moved in!! Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 192Jun 30, 2009 2:55 pm Yes, although we want our little ones to enjoy the outdoors, I too will be getting them to do the strip at the back door I'm glad all is falling into place for you Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 193Aug 19, 2009 4:36 pm Hey Brit, A quick Q on the tapware. Do you find that the taps have been installed a bit too high for the basin (especially in the powder room). I am a little concerned about splashing Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 194Aug 19, 2009 7:07 pm We were majorly concerned about splashing but they don't. They seem high but look good. Unfortunately (or possibly fortunately) they are out of reach of my four year old. Fi has moved in!! Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 196Aug 30, 2009 7:19 pm Hi Fi, What sort of flue do you have for your heater? Our builder installed a PVC flue which the building inspector agrees is a fire hazard and the builder is suppoe to replace it with a galvanised steel one. The Builder says that the PVC flue is a stansard when upgrading to the 5 star heating unit. Seeing that you & i both upgraded to the same heating unit, I was wondering what sort of clue you have. Many thanks! Re: My buckingham palace - hopefully the final week! 197Aug 30, 2009 7:26 pm brittany We haven't even given notice yet and they're after a thirty day notice!! Pain in the house we have to go through open houses whilst we're packing. Incentive to get a move on! When did you finally give notice Fi. Was it after you received your handover letter or did you wait until you felt assured that the house would be completed... we haven't given notice yet. Builder said he would give us the handover letter on Monday, verbally he has told us that handover would be 2/10/09 but i dont know if the date has been set in stone i need to know for sure before giving notice....which happens to also be 30 days.. Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 198Aug 30, 2009 7:39 pm Hi BP (sorry brittany for hijacking). Just read about your concerns over splashing. Our water pressure is fairly hard and we have had lots of splashing on the mirrors and even on the floor. We are slowly adjusting and training the kids to turn the tap on gently but it catches out visitors every time Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 199Aug 30, 2009 7:56 pm Thanks for the heads up Mundie, perhaps I should have raincoats hanging beside the hand towels I can just imagine our littles ones getting themselves all wet while they get a hand of things... We are slowly adjusting and training the kids to turn the tap on gently but it catches out visitors every time Hey Everyone, You can buy a pressure reducer from the local plumber that fits between the main water point and the taps hose connection under the basin to ease it a bit ... they are not cheap but work a treat (little soild brass looking thing), i have one on my dishwasher and washing machine at the moment to stop the water studder noises through the water lines in the walls I am new to HOMEONE forum but am building The Albany with NBG (it is the one next to the Buckingham Display in Tarneit) Upon reading alot from this forum, and reading through your build brit, i contacted brian and asked if he was happy to be my builder and he accepted.
