Would love to see some pics once you've settled in. Re: My buckingham palace - hopefully the final week! 166May 22, 2009 10:25 am CONGRATULATIONS Fi That's really great !!! Please do post some pics when you guys have settled down a bit! I hope that all things pending on your lists gets done asap Re: My buckingham palace - hopefully the final week! 167May 24, 2009 9:00 pm No photos - it's too dirty. We've walked through all the dirt from the front yard through the house and those dark tiles show every bit of it. Hopefully Monday week the driveway will be done and then we can have a big clean up after that. Been moving stuff all weekend (all the little stuff) and totally exhausted. Went and bought Ikea venetian off white slat blinds this morning and dh's dad put them up for all the front windows. I didn't want venetians but the view from the front road is too obvious and I want to leave my windows open. Had quotes for all the window furnishings on Friday and nearly choked. I think that part will be a gradual process. I am so over excited about this move and cannot wait (as opposed to the other two moves I've done in the last two years). We now have fences and our backyard suddenly seems smaller but finally is completely private. Our retaining walls are done and filled. Now I need plants. Fi has moved in!! Re: My buckingham palace - hopefully the final week! 168May 24, 2009 9:13 pm Hey Brit, sorry I had asked about your window furnishings in my thread. We got a pretty good deal on ours. I'll PM you the details if your interested. Em Re: My buckingham palace - hopefully the final week! 169May 24, 2009 9:18 pm The quote I got was $6500 which isn't too bad I suppose. The venetians for $1700 of that. The ones I bought today were $432. They look the same but the Ikea ones were a better colour match. Time will tell with the quality. Please pm me who you used. I am thinking e screen roller blinds for all the family but I need block out blinds on the dining door and kitchen window. Home theatre and bar window need roman blinds. Fi has moved in!! Re: My buckingham palace - hopefully the final week! 170May 24, 2009 9:23 pm I've PM'd you the details. The prices are for block out. You can check out their website to see colours etc, or ring him and he'll send you out free samples. Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 171Jun 05, 2009 11:44 am We finally moved. We couldn't bare it and last weekend put all the mattresses into a van and moved everything but the larger furniture which came by removalists yesterday. We're in awe!! It is all so exciting and fun and my husband has taken over my kitchen and organized every shelf and the pantry and won't let me touch anything - I'm only allowed to cook and wash pots and pans. He's not even relinquishing the dishwasher to me yet. He hasn't however taken over floor moping which is constant at the moment due to the mud inflow. The mud is disgusting but we gave up waiting on the concretor as the rain won't seem to stop. We have a few little issues - they're retiling our balcony (when it stops raining), they're lowering the balustrade on one side of the balcony (today), three tiles with chips inside, the water is still not connected to the cooler, no water meter, one toilet doesn't flush properly, the cover to the spa motor isn't on (read the cat story below), one of the toilet roll holders is loose and the bar is still to be installed. It is a very very big house when you're living in there. Everything that you though might be too small isn't too small - and the family room upstairs - massive. I still sit in bed and can't get over how big the bedroom is. We're just so over excited about the whole thing even the mud can't dampen us. I was sure our square dining table wouldn't fit into the dining space which seems to need a rectangle table. The square one does fit fine though and we still have stools on the kitchen bench next to it. My walk in robe is so big (and we took some out of it to make the house thinner) that we've put one chest of drawers in there and another unit. Our ensuite is big! We put a downlight over the sink which has been great as the ixl light is very bright and annoying if the other person is asleep. The first night we lost one of our cats. About midnight we heard some miaowing and after an hour worked out she was in the roof space. We're assuming she got through the opening for the spa motor. She was so angry about being moved that day she wouldn't come near me and it took three days of no food (I did give her water) to coax her to my fingers (whilst standing on the washing machine with the fan cover off) to get her close enough to grab her and pull her through. I have the scratches to prove it. She's quite settled now and starting to wander outside slowly. The other cat never missed a beat and moved without issue. We're not receving any mail yet as we don't have a letterbox. Once the concretors have been then that can happen. Not sure what to do in the meantime - maybe stick a box out there? I'm a bit worried about the heating bills as we're heating the whole house except the bedrooms. Once we have all the window coverings on this should be a bit better. The house was still 17 this morning with the heater off all night so hopefully the insulation is working a bit. My first time using the oven I burnt pre bought chips!! It took me about twenty minutes to get it going. The cooktop is great and so much better than anything I've had before. The showers are great - 1200x900 turned out to be ample space so not upset about not upgrading now. The soap holders are great and the pressure and hot water thank goodness are great. It's all so exciting!! Fi has moved in!! Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 172Jun 05, 2009 11:51 am Congratulations brittany you sound very excited and so you should be. The odd wee photo would be appreciated, mud and all. Poor kitty I have been waiting for my little dog to get stuck somewhere but she is handling it all quite well, even with her new doggy neighbours and even uses her first ever doggy door ALL the time, albeit slowly. Enjoy your new palace Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 173Jun 05, 2009 11:57 am Oh and the telstra issues!!!! I rang and booked connection $299. Fine they said - booked in for Friday and the technician would ring my husband with 1/2 an hour notice as we weren't living there. Of course he didn't call. I rang Monday and they said he did come but he didn't do it as no lead in. I said there is a pipe trenched from the front of the property to the house with a string in it. They said no this won't do - you have to get an approved Telstra person out to lay a cable. I rang the builder and rang everyone I know who might know about this and they said no - telstra do that. I made three more calls to telstra to get the same response as before. They give me a phone number of their contractor and I ring and get a message to leave a number and that someone will call me within four hours. Meantime I (stewing) ring my work electrician who is Telstra approved and he says he will do for me. Then the other people ring me after about six hours and say they already have the job in their system and that they hadn't got around to calling me yet to give a quote. I say don't bother as I've organized something else. Then on Tuesday Daniel from Telstra calls me to say that they're sorry about the delay but they're waiting on their end to be done first. Turns out that is something in the pit that isn't done and the orange string is fine. I tell him my grief and how I was told to get the cable laid. He said yes he can see how I got told that. GGGGrrrrr!! Anyway I got his name and contact number which turned out to be a great thing and he has gone ahead and organized for what to happen to happen. Meantime I've had phone calls from telstra asking me why we haven't done the lead in, a phone call asking to book in the technician (which can't be done till after the other bit of work), and I've just told them all to call my friend Daniel. I did get a phonecall yesterday offering free calls from our mobiles until our issues are resolved. I don't really care about a landline but I want internet access. Also our water meter has gone missing so I need to go to the police and make a report on that. Need to do lots of watering in the meantime - damn it's been raining. Fi has moved in!! Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 175Jun 08, 2009 1:07 pm How Exciting Brit !!! Good on you for not letting the mud dampen your excitement, the mud is temporary and will be fixed...and how incredibly sweet of DH getting your entire kitchen organised for you...I think its time to forgive him for not being a handy man HOpefully yoru balcony will be all fixed up so that you can start enjoying your coffee there although its pretty cold these days, i think a thick robe and fluffy slippers will do the trick Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 176Jun 08, 2009 1:32 pm How wonderful for you all! I can't wait to actually move in!! It's funny you mention how big everything is. I always think when I visit ours that things are big enough, except when we are actually living in it and see our furniture in place I am sure it will be different. Your poor kitty Your DH sounds funny Enjoy yourselves! My karma ran over your dogma Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 177Jun 08, 2009 9:38 pm What wonderful news Fi, CONGRATS! Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 179Jun 09, 2009 7:52 pm Hi Brit, We have just discovered that there is a likely chance that our side by side fridge will not fit in the fridge alcove of the Buckingham. We armed ourselves with a measuring tape this weekend and our fridge is about 960mm. We tried to measure the fridge alcove but as it hasn't been plastered yet, we can't be sure if it would fit Did your fridge fit in okay? Do you have the dimensions of the fridge alcove? I have gone through our plans, but there aren't any measurements specified. Re: My buckingham palace - all moved in!!! 180Jun 09, 2009 9:54 pm Hi Blessedpeople, This is my first post, I am still getting used to using this site I am looking at building the same house but haven't signed anything yet. I have however spent a long time studying the plans. I believe the width of the fridge space is 1mtr (1000mm) so your fridge should fit I can't wait to see a photo of the facade of your house once it is finished. I am trying to decide on my facade so I can get my quote done and I really like the way you have extended the porch I must say I have found everyone's comments very useful and loved all the photos and plans. They have given me so many ideas. Joe, it depends on your certifier but we are noticing the ones we deal with are really cracking down. So i would recommend you follow your approved landscaping plans to… 4 10979 Hi Simeon, Thank you for laying it down for us. Makes sense. Appreciate it very much. Have a nice day.
