Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Discolour in mortar after cleaning of bricks 5Apr 26, 2022 10:36 am When you wash anything with Acid the Acid will attack the Calcium or specifically the Calcium Oxide (makes up about 64% of cement) in the product - ie the surface Cement which would be the off white colour - once this has been dissolved you will just have the Yellow Sand which was used (in my opinion is the wrong sand they should have used a white sand product) the idea of cleaning the bricks is to remove the excess mortar which is done by the acid eating the calcium hence rendering the cement product not affective and the mortar just comes off Hi, I am planning to select San Selmo reclaimed original for the fascade of my build.
