Our second story bricks were cleaned a few days ago and they look yellow! Does anyone know what this could be and how do we fix it? Thanks!! If they use white sand and off white mortar u get off white mortar. I say accept t it. Whatever fix is in the market won't be 100%. Thanks for this. The mortar was white before it was cleaned. You can see the downstairs colour is still white (hasn’t been washed) but the second story has gone yellow since the acid wash. Re: Discolour in mortar after cleaning of bricks 4Mar 07, 2022 2:54 am Hi Karolien123, Sorry I know it's a long shot you'll see this message given it has been almost 3 years - but we've just had the same thing happen to our mortar after an acid wash 3 days ago. It's supposed to be a light grey (and looked light/medium grey before the wash without any hint of cream/yellow), but has turned cream and even quite yellow in areas (though the yellowest areas are where the mortar is probably still wet after the wash, having had less sun hit it). I'm wondering if you were able to fix this on your build, and if so, how it was fixed? Thanks so much! Re: Discolour in mortar after cleaning of bricks 5Apr 26, 2022 10:36 am When you wash anything with Acid the Acid will attack the Calcium or specifically the Calcium Oxide (makes up about 64% of cement) in the product - ie the surface Cement which would be the off white colour - once this has been dissolved you will just have the Yellow Sand which was used (in my opinion is the wrong sand they should have used a white sand product) the idea of cleaning the bricks is to remove the excess mortar which is done by the acid eating the calcium hence rendering the cement product not affective and the mortar just comes off Hi, I am planning to select San Selmo reclaimed original for the fascade of my build.
