Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 02, 2019 7:59 pm Hello, My Wife & I are looking forward to building our first home with the land settlement due tomorrow! Yay! We have already finalised our builder (Porter Davis) and are hoping to start the Build at the earliest. What are the key things we should keep in mind from now until when the Builder takes up responsibility? The block of land is part of a new release (Craigieburn) and hence there are several vacant plots next to ours. Should we consider temporary fencing? Appreciate your guidance. This way the builder can commence engineering while you wait for the block to register (saving a few weeks). Of course the builder may want you to pay a preliminary agreement fee or the deposit. Your design will also need to be finalised before going to engineering. One other recommendation I could make is don't try and rush things because mistakes and misunderstandings will be made. Best thing you can do is read your contract and make sure you understand it. If it's not in black and white it's not included! If you have any questions along the way feel free to ask me. Also let us know how you go with gaining access to the site for soils and contours. Cheers, Laurence A quick update, we didn't have site start before Easter.
