Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 27, 2019 3:44 pm Hi Guys, It might sound crazy. But due to the lack of knowledge about building a new home, we overlooked and we didn't ask for a treated timber for our new home. When the frames were delivered and put up, we realised how different it is from other houses as the wood looks natural in colour(stamped as MGP10) unlike others we've seen as greenish. Later we found out that it wasn't specified as treated timber in our tender, and we didn't ask as we don't have any idea at the time. Now that it's too late, has anyone or is it possible for me to just apply some sort of chemical to the wood base(attached to the slab) just to minimise potential dangers from termites? Don't know also if our builder will even allow me to. But would be happy if at least anyone here has tried? Could there be any product in bunnings i can or anyone has tried? Thanks in advance Re: Can I DIY my untreated timber frames? 2Oct 30, 2019 8:14 am Hi Superfly1130 Check to see that you have all the certified engineering Details and notes under timber treatments..if not your council should have copies. I know I haven't seen any topic related to DIY ing their timber frames. Thanks for the feedback That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17775 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8289 |
