Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our McDonald Jones Bronte Build 21Jul 23, 2019 8:08 pm Hi All Seems like everything is possible with these guys until you sign a contract. The latest disappointment comes in the form of a rather perplexing tiling issue. What we have selected is a 600 x 300 tile for the bathrooms. We would like a white tile on three of the four walls and a different colour on the floor and one of the walls, both tiles are the same size. This is a configuration we has seen in countless display homes but turns out McDonald Jones are not able to do this due to "construction constraints". Not really sure what that means given both tiles are the same size. We selected this configuration in one of our open studio appointments but days later we get told it cant be done. This really could be a deal breaker for us as we found the tile selection a bit limited and we have had this configuration in mind for some time now. We never would have believed they couldn't do it given the prevalence of this design in the homes we have been looking at. They did say if we wanted a feature wall it would have to be a smaller tile. I really don't get this and am pretty annoyed tonight. Cheers for now. Stephen Stephen and Jo Re: Our McDonald Jones Bronte Build 22Jul 23, 2019 9:00 pm That sounds weird for sure. I have a meeting booked with our tiler Thursday so might try and remember to ask him. This guy is reportedly the “best tiler in Ballarat” according to both our builder and the tile shop....anyhow we’ll see I guess. Are you considering cancelling the whole deal with some of these issues you’ve been experiencing? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Check our Homeone build blog here Re: Our McDonald Jones Bronte Build 23Jul 23, 2019 9:04 pm darb74 That sounds weird for sure. Are you considering cancelling the whole deal with some of these issues you’ve been experiencing? Hi darb Thanks for the feedback, I would certainly appreciate some input from a tiler. As for cancelling the whole process, I certainly am thinking about tonight because I am pretty peeved. If I was asking for outrageous things I would get it but I am only after things we have seen in heaps of places. Will sleep on it and see how we go. Cheers Re: Our McDonald Jones Bronte Build 25Jul 24, 2019 8:16 pm Hi Stephen and Jo, We are building with another company but have done just as you requested - floor and one or two walls in one colour tile, then another wall different colour tile. Didn't seem to be an issue at all. The only possible problem I could imagine would be if the two colours are different thicknesses or porcelain vs ceramic tiles? Re: Our McDonald Jones Bronte Build 28Nov 01, 2019 9:51 am Hi Stephen and Jo, Any update on your build? We are in the Hawkesbury and completed a custom build in 2016. Our next project will be on acreage (i'm jealous of your acreage in Marayla!). It's a same that MDJ is being painfull in relation to your windows/doors and cabling etc. Did this get rectified? I'm a Glazier/Shopfitter and all my work is custom aluminium windows/doors. Let me tell you I have done much larger that 2400x2100, actually I've done stacking doors with each leaf around this size. Re: Our McDonald Jones Bronte Build 29Nov 01, 2019 9:28 pm Hi Stephen and Jo, You have a beautiful block, I would love to one day build a beautiful big home on a block like that For now, I will settle for our standard suburban block hehehe Would love to hear an update! BUILDING OUR FIRST HOME :x] Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones. It looks relatively cheaper than other builders. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 8 17168 of course there are legal avenues. You've already mentioned it. Sue them. I find it odd that lawyers wouldnt be willing to take on the case, given CCT evidence and… 1 23616 |
