Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 21Sep 21, 2008 10:30 pm Thanks - we're really happy with the way the colour turned out. It's called 'Grey Space' by british paints. We wanted a grey that wasn't too depressing so we chose this warm, light shade of grey. Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 22Sep 22, 2008 10:56 am Amilelka,
thanks for that I'll check it out have you seen shale grey if so how does it compare, shale grey looks white in the light but in the shade it's ture grey and our home will have a lot in the shade and that worries me Would you or could you introduce dune as a feature what do think when you look at the whole house Its just so hard on little pieces of wall and I am one that does not have a good imagination your input would be great thanks Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 24Sep 22, 2008 2:15 pm Grey Space is a shade lighter than shale grey, but it has a similar hue. We were also worried about the outside looking too grey in the shadows and we're happy with the way it is now - it looks white in the sun, and light grey in the shade. I think the whiter shade makes it look more classy
We're using a colour called 'Grey Space' as a contrast to the main wall at the top of the portico, and also on a side courtyard wall. It's a shade darker than shale grey. I think Dune is a bit of a warmer grey than this, but I think it still suits. Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 27Sep 23, 2008 11:56 am I've always wondered why aussie houses have tin roofs. They look good in those photos, but aren't they noisey when it rains? C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 28Sep 23, 2008 12:45 pm Your house is really nice Kirribilli, I love it.
I am totally convinced, its surfmist for me, at least that's one colour choice made, now onto the other million! I love the sound of rain on a tin roof, for me thats a benefit, but everyone's different. Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 29Sep 23, 2008 2:13 pm Yep, I love the sound of rain on a tin roof too! We have pretty good insulation and that pretty much blocks it out - it's surprisingly quiet.
Hope you have fun with all your choices Velcro, there are sooo many things to decide on. All the best! Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 30Sep 23, 2008 3:06 pm Modern colour bond roofs with insulation are not that noisy in the rain.
We have an old house built in 1959 but extension added in 2000, the extension has a colourbond roof, we don't notice the rain other than as a pleasant background noise. Certainly can't hear it over the TV, doesn't drown out conversation or wake you up or anything like that but is nice gentle lullaby if everything else quiet, I love ****** in bed falling asleep to it. Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 32Sep 26, 2008 11:51 pm Hi donuts,
Thanks for the kind words!! Haven't got alot of nice photos. We've mainly been taking shots of all the bad work so we have a record, but will take some good room shots soon and post if your interested! The place still looks like a bomb hit it, stuff everywhere but we're nearly there. Found a few somewhat decent photos, shows whats happening. Front view, with little curved path. Your house is stunning! What were the colours you used for your render at the front? And I noticed you did not continue the render down the sides. We are only rendering the front of our place (moroka) and are struggling trying to find a colour for the render which will not clash with whatever bricks we decide on (we do know that we want a surfmist roof at least!) What colour are your bricks? Loretta Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 34Sep 28, 2008 3:31 pm Hi Loretta,
Thanks! Our bricks are Austral Leonora, it was in our builders standard range so we just went with that. The main render colour is Solver Ocean Beach and the white is Solver Designer White. They seem to match the roof well and the red bricks, which aren't plain red, have a bit of browny black and beigy cream through them. We wanted a traditional look but not too fussy so just went with the two colours and we wanted red bricks as everyone around us has cream and and felt it was more traditional anyway. It is hard to pick colours, probably was the thing that took us the longest - we have so many sample pots at our house, we could prob. paint the whole place again! Have thought that with the neutral colours we can easily paint again if we get tired of it, but I love it at the moment. Green grass and lots of white roses and I'll be set!! Have fun and let us know what you pick! Regards Kaye. Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 36Sep 28, 2008 8:52 pm Thanks HappyHome,
We built with Dale Alcock in Perth. It's coming along, just putting up some blinds today along the front windows, white wooden venetians, it's look ok, all light and bright. It will be great to get it all finished and have the house to ourselves. We are doing alot of the finishings ourselves - being scrooge Mcducks - saved money going towards a holiday next year! Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 37Sep 30, 2008 9:45 am hi just took a look at your pictures Kirribilli looks great can you tell me about the fire place is it a wood heater and what brand it is here in QLD most people think we are mad and there are not alot of shops We are looking for the inbult zero clearance and the internet pic,s are not that great would like a modern look yours looks great Re: Anyone got a colorbond surfmist roof? 38Sep 30, 2008 11:37 am Hi lostlozza,
The fire is a jetmaster 700D, gas with ceramic logs, you can get coals but we liked the look of wood. Fairly realistic. It has 2 fan speeds to pump out the heat or if you don't use the fan only gives off a bit of heat, more for just the look. We like it, as we can have a fire even if it's not cold. I'm a sucker for a wood fire! I'll add another pic, sorry it's a bit fuzzy! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ If your not bothered about heat, there are quite a few that are just ornamental, tho they look the same, they are a fair bit cheaper. There is a Jetmaster in Qld. if you check their web site. Thank you so much. We ended going with the terrain that’s part of our brick. 2 2499 Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10106 You should pressure clean your roof first and make sure the paint you buy also is anti mould. 4 17651 |
