Our builder quoted us over $1,200 for white mortar in our internal feature wall. I just couldn't justify it. Perhaps this is because they don’t usually point the inside of the brick walls as you don’t see it, so would be extra labour and materials not just a colour upgrade. Building Monte Carlo 40- Wisdom homes Re: Upgrade cost Off-White mortar 5Apr 12, 2019 8:01 pm It was literally just a colour upgrade from cream mortar to white mortar, as the face brick internal wall was part of the contract! I couldn't believe that it would cost anything like that to get a few bags of white cement and a small load of white sand..... We opted for a raked joint for $270 on this wall, but they actually forgot to do it, so they've had to credit it back to us.... Off white don't turn up too well usually. It dries very hard hence it crack etc etc. Just my opinion. Re: Upgrade cost Off-White mortar 9Apr 13, 2019 4:25 pm Bebbsy We’re building a single storey house (261sqm), with PGH Oyster bricks, can anyone give me an indicative cost of upgrading to an Off-White mortar? thx. For my 191sqm house with Fairhaven the upgrade to white mortar was $400. I'm happy with the finished look of the mortar against the grey bricks (Selkirk Thunderstorm). I’m not sure why you think that, the colour is changed by the colour of sand mixed with the cement. Off white looks much nicer than basic natural grey mortar. The white makes the bricks a feature. If the mortar cracks it’s due to the brickies not doing the correct proportions not because of the colour of the mortar! Re: Upgrade cost Off-White mortar 11Apr 13, 2019 7:39 pm Based on what I read, my personal experience and other friends experience. And also every mortar issue mentioned on this forum is always related to off white mortar. Somehow it's harder to get off white mortar right due to its characteristic.
