Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2019 11:53 pm Currently at Prestart with our builder. We have a 3.8m internal single leaf wall. I have been told to get the number of conduits installed that I want that they would need to add an extra leaf of bricks. When I questioned if there was a way around this I was told that our only option was to change to a timber stud wall instead. I'm confused over how a timber stud wall can be more structurally sound than a single leaf brick wall with conduits. As I'm looking to wall mount the TV, distribute HDMI from here to other TV's and also have CCTV and other entertainment cabling running here I was looking at quite a few conduits so I get that it would be an issue but over 3.8m I would have to think there would still be a lot more brick than you would have timber. Can anyone edumecate me? Re: Conduits in single leaf brick wall 3Apr 12, 2019 12:35 am Sorry for the confusion, not a feature wall will be plastered over so not worried about the conduits being chased. Just trying to figure out why they say a single leaf brick wall isn't good enough for multiple conduits but a timber stud wall would be. Re: Conduits in single leaf brick wall 6Apr 12, 2019 11:25 am We have similar in our house (WA) so it shouldn't be a problem. As long as you don't want horizontal chases. The conduit for HDMI is quite large so if you are trying to run numerous conduits to feed them it will start to compromise wall integrity. Forg. In Perth we build double brick. All the internal walls are only single brick wide (double on external) so any electrical or plumbing needs to be cut (chased) into the bricks before the hard plaster is done over the top. It's the same as the electrical and plumbing rough in you do in stud walls except it's cut into the brick. Apart from a double GPO, we have asked for two 32mm and a 25mm conduits centrally from 300 -1200AFL for the TV mounting, as well as four other 32mm conduits. (all vertical) They have said this is too much for a single leaf wall - even spreading over 3.8m Re: Conduits in single leaf brick wall 8Apr 12, 2019 7:10 pm When we went with Intelligent Home they had to check if our builder would allow the 50mm conduit that some Samsung TV's require for their HDMI cable. Their rep said they had to get approval. I have heard that some builders will force you to put a double leaf in the theatre room if you want to run a lot of cables in (friends of ours did it with their build). Re: Conduits in single leaf brick wall 9Apr 13, 2019 12:24 am I am really struggling to come up with a scenario where HDMI cable needs to be ran through the wall instead of being put into just cool looking external conduit from media wall-based Apple TV or media player directly to the wall mounted TV. I would imagine Cat 6 needs to go through the wall though. But may be that's just me. It seems unnecessary.
