Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 03, 2019 11:28 pm Hi All, We took the floor tiling (non wet areas) out of the contract due to the price - and we are only a few weeks from handover. We've picked our floor tile and its a 1200x600 rectified porcelain tile (chinese). Tomorrow I'm going to pay the deposit and discuss glue/grout options. I haven't got time to research that stuff so what should I be asking or buying!! Seems like the tile itself was the easy bit. Also how much should a tiler be charging for laying those. One we've talked to informally discussed skreeting and said roughly $55 sqm. Many thanks!! Builder: Ross North (WA) Re: (WA) Building house - tiling ourselves, which glue?? 2Apr 04, 2019 11:49 am You'll want something that is flexible, like Resaflex or similar. They have rubber compounds in them, so that if there's small movements in your slab it won't cause the tiles to crack. Large format porcelain tiles like that are not easy to lay. The slab has to be perfectly level in order to get the joints nice and even. The labour price will be fairly high, I would have thought possibly more than the $55 you've quoted. Sam There is a much stronger glue than liquid nails. It's called T Rex and will stick your timber to the concrete. Cheers Simeon 1 1152 Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering.
